Position Summary:

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the production process across multiple shifts or departments, ensuring manufacturing goals are met with a focus on safety, quality, efficiency, and cost control. This leadership role drives strategic planning, team performance, continuous improvement, and resource optimization within a fast-paced metal fabrication environment. The Production Manager plays a key role in aligning production operations with overall business objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of supervisors, leads, and production staff to meet organizational goals.

  • Establish and implement strategic production plans aligned with company objectives, capacity planning, and customer demand.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between production and cross-functional departments including Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance.

  • Promote and enforce a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and performance excellence.

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, production targets, quality expectations, and delivery timelines.

  • Analyze production data (KPI trends, downtime, scrap, throughput, labor efficiency) to identify and resolve performance gaps.

  • Allocate resources and labor effectively across shifts, balancing workloads and minimizing bottlenecks.

  • Ensure preventive maintenance and equipment reliability plans are executed in coordination with maintenance teams.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, 6S) to improve productivity, reduce waste, and optimize processes.

  • Implement standardized operating procedures and best practices across teams.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and industry safety standards.

  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action for quality or process issues.

People Development & Performance Management

  • Monitor team performance and provide regular feedback, coaching, and development plans.

  • Partner with HR in recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations for production staff.

  • Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive workplace culture.

Planning & Reporting

  • Review production schedules, materials requisitions, and labor allocations with Operations Director to ensure seamless operations.

  • Monitor and report on production metrics including efficiency, scrap, rework, downtime, and budget adherence.

  • Support forecasting and capacity planning initiatives with leadership and planning teams.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field. Equivalent experience considered.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in manufacturing leadership, with at least 3 years managing supervisors or team leads in a metal fabrication environment.

  • Demonstrated success in leading high-performing teams and managing operations in a fast-paced, metrics-driven production setting.

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing KPIs, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Proficient in reading blueprints, technical specifications, and interpreting work orders.

  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across functions and levels.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production planning software.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification or training.

  • Familiarity with ISO standards or similar quality systems.
