Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology/ Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • Certification by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (May be in the process of completing clinical fellowship year under the supervision of a certified speech-language pathologist)
  • License to practice as SLP in Massachusetts 

 

Skills / Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance 
  • Effective time management and organizational skills; Must be able to work effectively with interruptions and reprioritize tasks as unexpected circumstances arise
  • Experience working with students with Autism and AAC systems preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate and work collaboratively with colleagues, families and collateral supports
  • Candidate will be Safety Care Trained.  Must have mobility required to sufficiently assist students with disabilities with physical needs, personal care, and behavioral challenges. Must possess the ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis and have the ability to move quickly from standing to kneeling and back to standing without using hands to push off the floor.  May be required to physically restrain students in situations where there is a risk of serious and imminent harm.

Scope of duties:

  • Conducts comprehensive assessment of language and communication, including social communication skills and need for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
  • Assesses and treats feeding issues, if present in collaboration with BCBA and OT (e.g., patterns of food acceptance or rejection based on food texture; consumption of a limited variety of foods)
  • Participates as a member of multidisciplinary team and collaborates with other providers (BCBAs, special educators, counselors, and other specialists)
  • Develops and implements speech and language treatment goals through direct and indirect services
  • Creates necessary materials and supports (including use of AAC) to support a variety of communication needs
  • Uses an individualized approach to create motivating and engaging treatment sessions 
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into all clinical practices
  • Completes comprehensive documentation including data collection on goals and objectives, progress reports and Medicaid billing and treatment plans as applicable
  • Provides consultation and training for staff and caregivers for the generalization of skills across settings
  • Attends IEP meetings and other meetings as deemed necessary by the program principal/executive director
  • Conducts home visits and accompanies the student to outside evaluations as deemed appropriate by the program principal/executive director
  • May be required to supervise fellow therapists during clinical fellowship year
  • Participates in training in relevant areas.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal/executive director such as providing classroom coverage or assisting students with personal care support as needed

 

 

Employment is contingent upon passing a SAFIS fingerprint and CORI screening.
