What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.  New hires are typically brought into the organization at $24.71-$37.07. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s). 

Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at Denver International Airport (parking is provided)

  • Shifts consist of four (4) 10-hour days

  • Day Shift: Tuesday – Friday 0500 - 1530 (5:00 AM – 3:30 PM)

  • Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to change

  • Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If staffing challenges occur, weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (includes nights, weekends, and holidays)

  • Participates in mandatory snow removal duties

Denver International Airport Field Maintenance team is looking for a highly motivated Painter. In this position you will handle assignments, paint and help with fixtures of buildings, also including drywall repair, mudding, taping and finishing.

In this role, you will perform maintenance, repair, and remodel painting on a variety of City facility surfaces, using various painting tools, equipment, and painting application techniques. 

In this position, you can expect to:

  • Paints, varnishes, stains, enamels, lacquers, and redecorates walls, floors, woodwork, and fixtures of buildings using appropriate tools and techniques. 

  • Responds to service calls, assesses needs and provides problem resolution. 

  • Inspects painting jobs to estimate materials, equipment, labor, and costs. 

  • Tapes and finishes drywall, installs wall and floor coverings, removes old finishes, and prepares surfaces and selects premixed paint or mixes paints to achieve desired color. 

  • Maintains records and prepares daily activity reports. 

  • May be required to be on-call to address emergent needs. 

  • Participates in snow removal. 

  • Responds to after-hours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

  • Employees may be re-deployed to work in other capacities in their own agencies or in other City agencies to support core functions of the City during a City-wide emergency declared by the Mayor. 

  • Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent performing the essential duties listed above.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Experience working in high-security, high-traffic environments such as airports, with a strong understanding of safety protocols, restricted-access procedures, and time-sensitive project coordination.

  • Skilled in applying industrial-grade coatings and finishes designed for high-durability, high-visibility areas, including terminals, jet bridges, hangars, and baggage claim zones.

  • Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with multiple trades, airport personnel, and project managers to minimize disruptions and ensure FAA/TSA compliance.

  • Comfortable working variable hours, including nights and weekends, to accommodate off-peak work windows in active airport facilities without compromising quality or safety.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate. 

  • Experience Requirement: Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in the painting trade or three (3) years of maintenance painting experience. 

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements. 

  • License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. 

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
