About the Department
Performs semi-skilled work in landscape maintenance and installation. Requires familiarity with basic trade practices in landscape maintenance and landscaping and the ability to operate various pieces of equipment and vehicles. Work is assigned, reviewed by inspection, and performed under the direction of a supervisor. May assist Foreman in supervising and training Maintenance Worker I's.
Position Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
Trims and prunes tree limbs and roots. Mows turf, rakes, trims hedges, pulls weeds, and lays sod. Fertilizes, prunes and pots plants. Installs plants and trees.
Loads, unloads and moves equipment, supplies, materials and tools. Moves and arranges furniture for City functions.
Digs and backfills trenches, ditches, foundations, holes for planting, etc.
Assists workers of higher classifications in installing and maintaining sprinkler systems and landscaping.
Uses shovels, rakes, weed eaters, gas hedge shears, gas powered blowers, hand sprayers, lawn edger’s, tillers, air-spade, hydraulic lifts and other related equipment. Operates riding mower, drives a 3 quarter ton pick- up truck and dump truck. Maintains equipment and makes minor repairs.
Assists foremen in the supervision and training of Maintenance Worker I’s and temporary workers.
May be required to respond to non-routine situations during hurricane season or other emergency conditions.
Performs other related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum six (6) months experience in landscape maintenance or installation.
Valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License
A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the High School Diploma.
