Job Title: SMS/Safety Manager
SUMMARY:
The SMS Manager reports to the Accountable Manager and is responsible for establishing and maintaining the Company Safety Management System and ensures the company’s SMS is performing in accordance with relevant Corporate Safety Management Systems policies, procedures, and 14 CFR Part 5 Regulatory requirements. The SMS/Safety Manager (with the support and oversight of the Accountable Manager) is responsible for ensuring communication and coordination of the SMS throughout all operational departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts all activities in a professional manner, using the highest standards of conduct, professionalism, independence, and ethics.
- Promotes safety awareness throughout the organization.
- Ensures that safety management has the same or higher priority level throughout organization as any other management and operational process.
- Prepare and distributes various performance measurement products to assist department managers in improving the SMS within their areas of responsibilities.
- Provide feedback to employees about their adherence to relevant Company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Develops, implements, and maintains a quality assurance process for the SMS to monitor the effectiveness of the system, help in setting performance goals and, measurements by identify both positive and negative trends that may impact efficiency, quality, and safety; initiates corrective actions when necessary.
- Maintains familiarization with work practices, duties and responsibilities of all departments throughout the company.
- Initiates, supports and assists with incorporating commonly accepted industry standards and practices in all areas of the operation.
- Providing safety reports on SMS performance on periodic basis.
- Enters data into the safety database, supports staff in reporting of injuries and incidents.
- Provides liaison and support to other departments concerning safety matter at the station.
- Provides liaison with Government and commercial entity's, including OSHA and any state OSHA. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and loss prevention specialists from insurance companies, to ensure that all concerns expressed by these agencies are addressed.
- Ensures adequate PPE/ Safety supplies at the CVG station.
- Provides surveillance of operations for potential unsafe conditions.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Accountable Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school graduate required, college graduate desirable.
- Extensive experience in multiple facets of Part 145 operations required.
- Professional Knowledge of the organization’s specific operations and environment.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Demonstrated Inter and intra-organization project management skills.
- Must have attended an SMS certificated course.
- Self-motivated and able to work with cross departmental teams.
- Computer literacy required, familiarity with computer programs and procedures.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write and understand spoken and written English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to convert between different units of measure. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
