Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Data Systems Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and support of Laboratory data management systems at Vaxcyte. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in deploying lab data systems used in the Biotech industry, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards. This role is essential in enhancing laboratory workflows, ensuring data integrity, and improving operational efficiency across scientific domains.

Essential Functions:

  • Act as the Systems Lead and Administrator for Vaxcyte’s Benchling ELN to manage user accounts, permissions, and system configurations in alignment with organizational needs.
  • Lead implementation of data system business process mapping and requirements gathering.
  • Create detailed lifecycle documentation for Benchling and other lab data systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in collaboration with IT and end users.
  • Oversee cross-functional projects, ensuring lab data systems are integrated seamlessly with existing IT systems and aligned with business needs.
  • Provide technical support and training, ensuring optimal end-user experience.
  • Partner with scientists to assess pain points and design improvements in Benchling workflows, schemas, and templates to optimize system performance.
  • Implement new features and modules to support evolving operational processes while maintaining technical documentation.
  • Contribute to data governance by establishing best practices.
  • Maintain vendor relationship to stay updated on product developments, raise ongoing technical challenges, and influence product roadmap priorities.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience configuring and administering Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) or similar Other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Hands on experience with Benchling configuration, administration, and/or integrations.
  • Experience gathering user requirements and translating them into technical deliverables.
  • Proficiency in master data management and workflow optimization within lab data.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills, with experience in leading end-user training and support.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical end users.
  • Knowledge of data structures and relational database
  • Knowledge of SQL and experience with data interfaces and integrations within lab data.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python.
  • Previous experience in Biotech, pharma, or life science research environment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory workflows: R&D and CMC.

Location: San Carlos, CA
 
Compensation:
The compensation package will be competitive and includes comprehensive benefits and an equity component.
 
Salary Range: $138,000 - $161,000 (SF Bay Area). Salary ranges for non-California locations may vary.
