Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
One-year experience in the operation and maintenance of water production systems and/or treatment plants.

Education:
Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized training in water treatment methods and practices.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES

License:
Possession of a valid, Class C California motor vehicle operator's license and a satisfactory driving record are required at the time of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment.  Possession of a valid California Class B license is preferred.

Certificate:
A California State Department of Health, Water Treatment Operator Grade 2 Certificate is required at time of appointment. T3 Certificate highly desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires some physical effort including bending, stooping, climbing and lifting items weighing 20-100 lbs.  Tasks are occasionally performed in inclement weather.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, practices and equipment generally used in the construction, maintenance and operation of water production systems; Control panels and basic electrical circuit controls; Occupational hazards; accepted safety standards and precautions necessary in the workplace; Basic laboratory methods; and Principles and methods of hydraulics.

Ability to:
Maintain records and prepare reports; Operate and maintain a variety of technical and maintenance equipment safely; Work shifts, weekends and during emergency conditions; Work effectively with other employees and the general public; Use a personal computer for report preparation and record keeping.

NOTE: New hire candidates must show proof of full Covid vaccinations prior to being hired.
