Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our market-leading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense), while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new, hard-to-reach customers. We’re a fast-growing marketplace business looking for a new customer-obsessed teammate to join us on this exciting journey.

At Mudflap, we’re on a mission to make life easier for truck drivers and fleet managers everywhere. We remove the tech burden so our users can focus on the road, not on complicated systems. As a Designer at Mudflap, you’ll help elevate our brand and deliver impactful, user-friendly designs across key channels — from digital campaigns to print, web, and beyond. Your work will ensure our brand feels seamless, approachable, and indispensable to the people we serve.

Work Location:

This role can be primarily remote with occasional in-office collaboration days at our Palo Alto, CA location. Team members are expected to be available for scheduled on-site meetings or events a few times per quarter.

To support our team, we offer:

  • Commuter benefits to ease your travel
  • Lunches and snacks to keep you fueled
  • A collaborative, high-growth environment where you’ll work closely with talented teammates across the company

Expectations:

  • Customer obsession — Immerse yourself in the freight industry. Use user research and competitive insights to shape and socialize creative direction that connects strategy to execution.
  • Cross-functional partnership — Collaborate with Marketing, Product, Product Design, and Engineering to articulate our value proposition, evolve our brand, and deliver impactful customer experiences.
  • Strategic initiatives — Lead the creative execution of high-impact projects, from website redesigns and brand refreshes to ad campaigns, lifecycle/email programs, and go-to-market launches.
  • Creative ownership from concept to delivery — Carry ideas from early explorations in Figma through polished execution, including Webflow landing pages and Braze email campaigns.
  • Brand leadership & direction — Define, evolve, and elevate Mudflap’s brand vision. Balance the clarity of a modern aesthetic with the authenticity that resonates with the trucking community.
  • Unified design system & multichannel identity — Build and maintain a scalable brand system (type, grids, color, motion, imagery) and extend it across digital, print, social, events, and product. Partner with Product Design to ensure one cohesive brand experience.

Experience (What we look for):

  • 8+ years of in-house design experience at a consumer or SaaS software company (bonus if you’ve worked with operations or marketplace software).
  • Strong background in brand, communication, and marketing design, with the ability to translate strategy into compelling creative across multiple channels.
  • In-house brand stewardship — demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and evolve a brand system over time, beyond short-term agency engagements or campaign work.
  • Cross-functional fluency — comfortable collaborating with Marketing, Product, Product Design, Engineering, Data Science, and leadership to deliver cohesive customer experiences.
  • User research and data-informed design — deeply engage with user needs and business goals by combining customer interviews, competitive analysis, and funnel diagnostics. Proactively propose and execute iterative improvements, and validate them through A/B and multivariate testing.
  • Storytelling and facilitation skills — exceptional at explaining your thinking, presenting to stakeholders, and leading design jams or workshops.
  • Independent ownership and high-velocity execution — thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment by taking projects from insight to impact: gathering research, aligning with stakeholders, shaping the vision, and delivering polished assets across digital and print marketing, lifecycle campaigns, ad campaigns, and conversion funnels.
  • Polished portfolio demonstrating conceptual strength, systems thinking, visual clarity, and high-quality execution.
  • Fluency in modern design tools including Figma, Jitter, Webflow, Braze, and related creative software.
  • Formal design education (BFA/MFA preferred) or equivalent professional experience.

Perks and Benefits (What we offer):

  • Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup
  • Multiple health benefit options
  • Responsible Time Off
