Job Summary:
Responsible for planning, organizing and directing the overall operation of the Pharmacy Department; ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups of patients ranging from newborns to the elderly; directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals and related substances and supplies; participates in the department’s planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education and human resources activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Customer Service Excellence
· Oversees daily operations of the retail pharmacy, ensuring a customer-focused environment that prioritizes safety, accessibility, efficiency, and high-quality service.
· Utilizes performance metrics and customer feedback to optimize safety, workflow efficiency, reduce wait times, and enhance the patient experience.
· Implements strategies to drive customer loyalty, such as personalized consultations.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety Standards
· Ensures compliance with all local, state, federal, and board of pharmacy regulations, including DEA, FDA, 340B, HIPAA requirements, and 340B anti-inducement requirements.
· Conducts regular audits of prescription dispensing, controlled substance logs, and inventory to maintain accuracy and prevent errors or diversion.
· Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy environment, adhering to infection control and workplace safety guidelines.
· Ensures compliance with 340B law and serves as a 340B information resource for UBH Healthcare professionals and support staff.
Patient-Centered Care & Counseling
· Collaborates with healthcare providers to deliver tailored medication management for patients across all age groups (pediatrics, adults, geriatrics), addressing dosage variations and drug interactions.
· Provides comprehensive medication counseling, adherence support, and education on over-the-counter (OTC) products, supplements, and health conditions.
Pharmacy Technology & Digital Integration
· Oversees the implementation and maintenance of pharmacy management systems, automated dispensing machines, and mobile apps for prescription refills and customer communication.
· Leverages data analytics to monitor prescription trends, optimize inventory, and personalize customer offerings.
· Explores innovative tools, such as online services, digital or website presence, to enhance service delivery.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management
· Manages the procurement, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals, OTC products, and health and wellness items, ensuring cost-effective inventory practices.
· Maintains optimal stock levels through demand forecasting, minimizing overstock and stockouts while adhering to formulary guidelines.
· Ensures proper storage conditions for medications, including temperature control and secure handling of controlled substances.
· Ensures inventory compliance with 340B law.
Policy Development & Process Improvement
· Develops, updates, and communicates pharmacy policies and procedures, aligning with corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
· Incorporates feedback from staff and customers to streamline processes, such as prescription verification or insurance claim handling.
· Stays informed on regulatory and market trends to adapt policies and maintain competitive service offerings.
Team Leadership & Professional Development
· Recruits, trains, and mentors pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and front-end associates, fostering a collaborative and customer-focused team culture.
· Coordinate ongoing training on clinical updates, customer service skills, and regulatory compliance to ensure staff competency.
· Conducts performance evaluations, setting clear objectives and providing feedback to support career growth and operational excellence.
Financial Management & Business Growth
· Prepares and manages the pharmacy’s budget, balancing labor, inventory, and operational expenses while meeting revenue targets.
· Analyzes sales data to identify growth opportunities, such as expanding health and wellness services or promoting high-margin OTC products.
· Ensures accurate billing, insurance adjudication, and third-party payer reconciliations to maximize profitability and 340B savings.
Community Engagement & Health Promotion
· Leads community outreach initiatives, such as vaccination clinics or health screenings, to strengthen the pharmacy’s role as a local health hub.
· Partners with local organizations, schools, and businesses to promote public health initiatives.
· Enhances the pharmacy’s visibility through social media, local events, and partnerships to attract and retain customers.
Clinical Services & Health and Wellness Programs
· Develops and manages clinical services, including immunizations, medication therapy management (MTM), and point-of-care testing (e.g., blood pressure, glucose, strep testing).
· Promotes health and wellness programs, such as weight management or chronic disease education, to support customer health and drive revenue.
· Collaborates with prescribers to implement collaborative practice agreements for expanded services, where permitted.
Staff Pharmacist Support
· Provides hands-on support during peak hours or staffing shortages, assisting with prescription dispensing, customer counseling, and front-end operations.
· Models exemplary customer service and clinical expertise to set a standard for staff performance.
Documentation & Data Security
· Maintains accurate and secure records for prescriptions, inventory, and customer transactions in compliance with regulatory and corporate standards.
· Utilizes pharmacy software to document clinical interventions, track patient outcomes, and support business analytics.
· Implements cybersecurity measures to protect patient data and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.

Regulatory Requirements:
- Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent.
- Current Pharmacist licensure in the State of Utah or ability to obtain Pharmacist licensure in the State of Utah.
- Management training or equivalent managerial experience preferred.
