The Norwich Free Academy is seeking an Athletic Director. The main responsibilities is to maintain, organize, and administer the overall program of interscholastic athletics, including intramural activities, while upholding the proud traditions of Norwich Free Academy athletics. The Athletic Director will work to build upon a history of excellence, foster success for student-athletes, and promote athletic programs that have a positive and lasting impact on the school community. Programs should reflect the mission of NFA, support student growth and teamwork, and inspire school spirit and pride. This is a full time, 12 month administrative position with a full benefits package, including vacation, holidays, health insurance, and contribution to the Connecticut Teacher Retirement Board. Compensation: $150,000 – $155,000.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Organize and administer the overall program of interscholastic athletics.
- The administering of policies and procedures and coordinating the recruiting, interviewing, selection, and assignment of coaches.
- Evaluate all head coaches annually.
- Require head coaches to assess assistant coaches annually.
- Maintain the necessary certification for all coaches, as required by the State Department of Education
- Interpret and communicate to staff, students and parents, all school, conference and CIAC regulations governing interscholastic athletics.
- Assume responsibilities for planning, organizing, and conducting staff meetings and in-service programs.
- Represent the Academy at league meetings.
- Arrange transportation requirements for all athletic teams.
- Schedules all interscholastic athletic events.
- Hire official, police, and other supervision as required and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision for all home contests.
- Develop and implement the appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Arrange all details of visiting teams and official's needs as appropriate.
- Arrange practice schedules for use of athletic fields and facilities.
- Review, revise, and distribute student-athlete handbook.
- Review, revise, and distribute coaches' handbooks.
- Maintain eligibility rules and submit certified lists to the CIAC.
- Provide and arrange for proper notification to student-athletes on local, league, and state athletic eligibility requirements.
- Submit to the CIAC all other appropriate forms and information as required regarding the athletic program.
- Keep record of results of all school athletic contests, and maintain a record file of all award winners.
- Provide athletes with information on eligibility, transfer rules, and other athletic regulations.
- Provide medical coverage as needed for athletic contests and ensure that physical exam requirements are met by all student athletes.
- Supervise the athletic trainer and athletic department administrative assistant.
- Maintain proper levels of sportsmanship at all athletic contests.
Financial Duties:
- Prepare and administer the athletic department budget in cooperation with the finance department.
- Requisition program supplies and equipment.
- Review and sign all invoices submitted for payment.
- Conduct scheduled reviews of athletic accounts.
- Supervise all ticket sales and assume responsibility for proper handling and accounting of funds.
Property, Equipment, Supplies:
- Establish procedures for use and care of all athletic facilities, equipment, and supplies.
- Direct coaches to prepare and submit inventories.
- Supervise the maintenance of both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.
- Order, receive, and distribute all newly purchased equipment and supplies.
- Arrange for reconditioning and storage of out-of-season equipment and supplies.
- Oversee preparation for all sites for home contests.
Public Relations:
- Plan and supervise a recognition program for school athletes.
- Create good will and public relations among respective league members. Parents, coaches, and school administration.
- Serve as liaison to booster groups.
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Academy’s policy on the evaluation of administrative staff.
Qualifications:
- Valid Connecticut 092 Intermediate Administrator and Supervisor Certificate required.
- Successful prior experience as an Athletic Director and/or School Administrator.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills with the ability to supervise and evaluate staff.
- Strong organizational skills, with experience overseeing multiple programs and events.
- Knowledge of CIAC rules, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Experience in budget development and management.
