THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION IS NOW REQUIRING ALL PARAEDUCATORS TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND/OR HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS OR GED TO MEET TITLE 1, PART A FEDERAL LAW REQUIREMENTS.  PLEASE PROVIDE OUR OFFICE WITH A COPY PRIOR TO BEING THE SELECTED CANDIDATE.

 

Comments: This position is temporary for the 2025-2026 school year only.

 

Purpose Statement:

The job of Paraeducator - Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to a variety of students, staff, and building teams to assist with student behavior support and implementation of behavior interventions. This position works directly with students and other staff in a school setting providing classroom-based modeling, coaching, and student-specific interventions; Provides support for restorative student group work. This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: Supporting students by integrating data and instruction to maximize student achievement and support students social, emotional, and behavior needs from a strengths-based perspective.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Adapts classroom instruction, under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing support and/or reinforce classroom objectives;
  • Assists students for the purpose of achieving academic goals and personal excellence;
  • Attends various meetings and trainings for the purpose of supporting students;
  • Communicates effectively (e.g. possess awareness (for self and others), listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, possess a growth mindset, and be customer service oriented, etc.) for the purpose of providing an educational and supportive environment;
  • Creates organizational systems and flexibility to respond to changing student needs (e.g. meet deadlines and multi-task, etc.) for the purpose of providing efficient support to the teacher and students;
  • Maintains a calm, efficient, courteous, and positive presence under stress (e.g. work independently, exercise careful judgment, and tact in the performance of duties, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment;
  • Maintains confidentiality and work effectively under pressure maintain professional relationships with students, co-workers, and administration (e.g. maintain professional relationships with students, coworkers, and administration, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment;
  • Maintains the physical appearance of work areas for the purpose of providing an educationally stimulating environment;
  • Observes and collects information to be recorded via data sheets for the purpose of supporting the progress of individual students’ goals and objectives;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit;
  • Provides individual and/or small group instruction for the purpose of focusing on Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports based on direction from teachers and administrators;
  • Uses clear, concise, accurate, and professional communication for the purpose of appropriately redirecting student behavior with interventions;
  • Works with teacher, counselor, and principal for the purpose of identifying resources and interventions that are developmentally appropriate for students.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: instructional procedures and practices; age-appropriate student activities; safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; and stages of child development/ behavior; de-escalation strategies.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing  specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization’s services.

 

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

 

Experience: Job related experience is desired in Research-based intervention in a multi-tiered system of support, or other positive behavioral support program including CHAMPS training, preferred. Experience in building strong professional relationships with school aged students. Experience working with systems and intervention programs that include helping students be accountable for their actions while working to develop student’s ability to make positive choices, preferred.

 

Education (Preferred):

 

Education (Minimum): Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent (for more detailed information on what is considered equivalent).

 

In addition, a paraeducator must meet one of the following:

  1. Have received a passing score of the ParaPro assessments OR
  2. Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university OR
  3. Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
