A current vacancy exists for a School Safety & Security Coordinator within the Norristown Area School District. 

 

This position is responsible for contributing to a safe and secure environment for the employees, students and visitors at the Norristown Area School District. The assigned candidate will provide daily supervision of school security personnel at all district locations. In addition, The Coordinator will work to improve the safety culture of the School District and will report to the Chief Operations Officer.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an Associate degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in an educational setting, law enforcement, or security management
  • Experience working with k-12 students preferred
  • Proven ability to supervise others effectively and work in a team environment
  • Completion of required Act 67 course
  • Valid PA driver’s license and clean driving record required 
  • Capable and able to perform all operations associated with security technology
  • Successful completion and submission of all required school clearances
  • Ability to be flexible, self-directed, and motivated
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with staff and students
  • Ability to do job responsibilities with minimal supervision and ability to schedule time to meet deadlines
  • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI
  • Bilingual in Spanish Preferred 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as Safety and Security Coordinator for the School District as required by all applicable PDE regulations and applicable laws and statutes of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Supervises all members of the District’s security staff (Internal and contracted); participates in the hiring process, disciplinary action, training, scheduling and evaluation of both internal and contracted security staff
  • Improve the climate and culture of the School District by ensuring that all safety and security programs are implemented with an equity and student centered approach and mindset throughout the organization
  • Assist district administrators with investigations of accidents/incidents, conducting on-site audits to identify hazards and potential risks, and preparing reports for the Chief Operations Officer and Superintendent to recommend changes in equipment and procedures to mitigate risk for the district
  • Coordinates continuous Inspection of school property within the district, keeping alert for suspicious or hazardous conditions
  • Work with appropriate agencies to continually increase knowledge on current legislation, regulations, and practices regarding Safety and Security, and provide recommendations and/or proposals to the Chief Operations Officer and Superintendent regarding the implementation of applicable federal, state and local codes pertaining to the Safety and Security of the organization
  • Advises the Chief Operations Officer and Superintendent on all security plan matters; prepares drafts of security plans; evaluates the security program on a continuing basis and recommends changes as necessary
  • Makes recommendations and provides consultative services to building principals/Building Emergency Teams on issues concerning school safety
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and practical Safety and Security program designed to maintain an environment that is conducive to the safety and well-being of everyone in district facilities
  • Assists building administrators with the development and understanding of building All Hazard Management Plans
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining All Hazards Plan updates
  • Contributes to the maintenance of memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and letters of agreement with local law enforcement, PEMA and County Emergency Management Teams
  • Coordinates and evaluates school site assessments with local police and other officials
  • Works with appropriate administration on any district-led investigations related to the violation of PA law and reviews all citations 
  • Reports all major incidents and activities involving safety/security issues to the Chief Operations Officer and Superintendent
  • Coordinates emergency management plans and serves as a liaison with local and County Emergency Management teams
  • Represents the School District in community initiatives/activities related to Safe Schools and communities
  • Reports all maintenance concerns, such as broken windows, bathroom facilities, fire extinguishers, etc. in a timely manner to the Operations team
  • Participates in the annual Safe Schools Report to the Board of School Directors
  • Reviews and assists in the preparation of all applicable PA and PDE Reports related to school safety and security, and the PDE Safe Schools report
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

12 Month Position

 

Salary:

Based on equal or greater experience and prorated accordingly

 

$78,000- $85,000
