Overview:

The Operational Reporting & Analytics Manager is responsible for overseeing the Power BI reporting environment, serving as the main contact for operations regarding reporting, addressing questions, providing training, and gathering requirements for new or improved reports. This role combines extensive industry knowledge in natural gas engines, electric motors, compressors, and financial processes with responsibilities for reporting governance, training, and ongoing improvement. The Manager ensures that Power BI reports and dashboards are accurate, dependable, and aligned with field needs. Additionally, this role conducts operational analysis (such as benchmarking, ad-hoc reviews, and downtime/service evaluations) and actively seeks opportunities to enhance reporting tools, workflows, and business insights. This position does not require advanced data science or database development. Instead, it focuses on operational expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to connect field needs with reporting solutions.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties: (Approximate % of Time Spent)     

  • Oversee the Power BI reporting environment, ensuring governance, accuracy, and consistency of all production reports and dashboards. (20%)
  • Own the demand process for operational reporting, serving as the first point of contact for new or revised reporting needs, gathering requirements, validating business value, and coordinating with developers for delivery. (20%)
  • Support operations teams with existing reports, providing timely explanations, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring confidence in the data. (15%)
  • Conduct operational analysis (e.g., benchmarking, ad-hoc reviews, downtime/service evaluations) to generate insights that support decision-making. (15%)
  • Perform quality assurance on reports, validating accuracy and functionality to ensure outputs align with operational and financial realities. (10%)
  • Provide training and onboarding for field teams on Power BI reports, driving adoption and effective use of reporting tools. (10%)
  • Identify and implement improvements in reporting workflows, views, and automated notifications to continuously enhance value to operations. (5%)
  • Maintain documentation and change management communication on report changes or new reports, including version control and best practices. (5%)

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities to:  

  • Perform all essential responsibilities.   
  • Strong operational knowledge of natural gas engines, compressors, and financial processes.
  • Familiarity with Power BI reporting (end-user and governance level).
  • Ability to gather and translate business requirements into actionable reporting solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills for benchmarking and ad-hoc operational reviews.
  • Communication and training skills for field and non-technical audiences.
  • Organizational ability to manage multiple reporting needs and priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge:

  • Natural gas compression operations and field processes.
  • Familiarity with how reporting tools leverage IoT sensor data and work order service data to reflect operational and financial performance.
  • Power BI usage, governance, and lifecycle management.
  • Best practices for report adoption, training, and support.
  • Operational analysis methods (benchmarking, downtime/service reviews, etc.).

Minimum Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, or related field; OR equivalent industry experience in natural gas compression operations and management.
  • Power BI certification preferred but not required.

Minimum Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in natural gas compression operations and/or financial management, with proven leadership in operations or field management.
  • Prior experience with reporting tools (Power BI preferred) as a user, validator, or manager.
  • Experience conducting operational analysis and supporting business decision-making.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with operations and technical teams.
  • Experience with big data, data architecture, modeling, trends analysis, and statistics.

Leadership:

  • Leads the operational reporting function, including directing contractors or IT-assigned staff as needed.
  • Sets priorities and ensures deliverables meet governance standards and business needs.
  • Provides feedback, coaching, and operational context to reporting resources.
  • Coordinates with IT and Advanced Analytics leadership to align resources and reporting standards.
  • Serves as liaison between operations, developers, and the Advanced Analytics team.

  • Provides practical, data-driven solutions to operational reporting and analysis needs, where careful validation and operational knowledge are critical.
  • Regularly evaluates reporting workflows and identifies opportunities to simplify processes, improve usability, and enhance accuracy.
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness in balancing operational requirements with available reporting tools and data sources (e.g., IoT sensor data in the cloud, Dynamics work order data).
  • Expected to proactively identify improvements in reporting views, automated notifications, and training to maximize operational value.

  • Actions and decisions directly impact the strategic and financial decisions of Archrock’s business leaders.  Accuracy of work product is imperative to maintain the overall equipment performance, service quality, and profitability of all product lines.
