Position Summary:  The school social worker will work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff to create supportive, proactive, and intensive programming for students in order to resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and the capacity to have the fullest benefits of the education offered to them.  

 

This position is a full-time position that is funded for the 2025-2026 school year ONLY and due to grant funding for one year only.   

 

Qualifications:  

1. Appropriate KY Clinical Social Work Certificate OR school social work certificate.  

2. Experience with trauma-exposed youth as well as with parents and children in addressing barriers to academic performance or other experiences as assigned by the  Superintendent or designee.  

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Is regular in attendance and punctual.
  2. Works with and through the organization ladder when solving problems or seeking change.
  3. Maintains a proper student/staff relationship at all times.
  4. Maintains accurate, complete, and legible records submitted on time.Deals with students and the concerns of parents in a positive, constructive manner.
  5. Complies with KRS mandate pertaining to child abuse and neglect.
  6. Interprets policies, programs, and activities for parents and the community.
  7. Handles problems in a consistent and fair manner.
  8. Assist in the development of preventative social services and intervention plans to meet the needs of students who are at risk for placement in long-term/residential care facilities.
  9. Assist in the development of alternative education programs and support services to meet the needs of students transitioning from long-term/residential treatment to their home schools within BCPS.
  10. Work collaboratively with school and district staff as part of a trauma-informed effort to identify and assist students whose learning, behavior, and relationships have been impacted by trauma.
  11. Work with MTSS/PBIS school and district personnel within the focus and terms of the grant to establish team goals, and collaborate with the project director to communicate and evaluate progress on a regular basis.
  12. Helps parents, students, and/or staff identify and find ways to overcome barriers to school attendance, achievement, and social functioning through collaborative planning with available community agencies and resources. 
  13. Evaluate the need for referrals to community agencies where applicable and work collaboratively with school staff and community partners to organize intervention strategies, set objectives, monitor progress, and measure outcomes of services within the school setting.
  14. Work collaboratively with staff and administration at all schools to develop and facilitate transition plans for students returning to their assigned home school that has previously been alternatively placed.
  15. Cooperates in accomplishing school and board objectives by ensuring familiarity with current laws and regulations relating to specific job responsibilities and adhering to board policies.
  16. Remains current in crisis intervention techniques and assists in crisis situations by assessing the situation, providing understanding and support, and offering alternatives to action in order to reduce tension between students and parents in crisis.
  17. Conducts individual and/or group counseling when appropriate.
  18. Creates a favorable professional image in the school community.
  19. Collaborates and communicates with staff at schools to ensure that students get their appropriate needs met.
  20. Handles confidential matters or information in a professional manner.
  21. Performs all other duties as assigned by the superintendent/designee.

This position is for the 2025-2026 school year only.

Salary based on board approved salary schedule for the 2025-2026 school year.
