The Pawtucket School Department is seeking a director to lead initiatives to positively impact student achievement. The Superintendent is seeking a dynamic, energetic, optimistic instructional leader who will work collaboratively with teachers, students and the community to create a culture of respect, responsibility and results.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Superintendent, serves as the instructional leader of Career & Technical Education (CTE).
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Plan, implement and supervise secondary career & technical education programs
for the district.
•Supervise and observe CTE teachers and programs within the district
•Coordinate and plan training and professional development in CTE
•Monitors and reports on the financial status of CTE programs
•Prepares, submits and manages the annual Perkins Grant, including assuring grant guidelines and reporting requirements are met.
•Searches out and applies for federal, state and other sources of funding for CTE programming
•Oversees requisitions and purchases orders for CTE programs in the district
•Prepares specifications and invitations for bids, in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer.
•Purchases supplies, materials and equipment for CTE programs; supervises their distribution, inventory and maintenance.
•Leads ongoing curriculum development among CTE programs, in alignment with state and federal regulations.
•Oversees CTE advisory boards for each CTE program, ensuring student interest meets the needs of business and industry sectors.
•Oversees recruitment of new students as well as selection and audition processes and procedures in Career & Technical Education programs.
•Serves as liaison between RIDE/CTE Board of Trustees and the district
•Assumes responsibility for the collection, review, and submission of all forms and reports relative to career and technical education to state agencies.
•Works closely with secondary administrators, school counselors and other staff in the district and community to inform and encourage student interest in CTE programs within career pathways as well as career exploration.
•Responsible for planning, organizing and development of unified arts programs.
•Prepares the budget and oversees expenditures Career & Technical Education.
•Facilitates and coordinates development of performance outcomes and expectations for K-12 alignment to National Core Arts Standards.
•Develops communication networks among schools and between schools and the arts community.
•Coordinates professional development.
•Works closely with elementary and secondary administrators, school counselors and other staff in the district and community to inform and encourage student interest in unified arts programs.
•Exercises vision and provides leadership that appropriately involves staff, parents, students, and the community in the identification and accomplishment of the district's Career & Technical Education mission. The Director coordinates the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs, curriculum and instructional practices in Career & Technical Education within the district to ensure that all students meet and exceed the appropriate curriculum content standards. The Director works collaboratively with the administrative and instructional staff and communicates effectively with parents, members of the community and colleagues in other districts and schools.
•Assumes responsibility for establishing, improving, and maintaining administrative and educational procedures and programs necessary for the successful operation of Career & Technical Education.
•Demonstrates broad knowledge of all performing and visual arts programs taught in the school to ensure technical and academic needs of students are met.
•Participates in city and state art collaboratives to promote the performing and visual arts school mission.
•Maintains current knowledge and ensures compliance with all federal and state laws, School Committee policies, and administrative regulations affecting Career & Technical Education.
•Demonstrates awareness of and subject to appropriate laws of the State of Rhode Island, and the regulations of the district and the Rhode Island Department of Education.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Education: A Master’s Degree in School Administration or related field
AND
Experience: A minimum of (2) years of teaching and/or leadership in the arts, arts education, career and technical education or a related field;
AND
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of community involvement and leadership in career and technical education and/or the arts.
AND
Satisfactory evaluations in the last three (3) years.
Knowledge of:
Modern instructional techniques and curricular concepts, especially as they are related to the middle school and high school; instructional technology; the vertical structure of the course of study of the District and the importance of articulation in these areas; the District's philosophy of the role of comprehensive secondary education; principles and practices of school administration, including school finances, teaching methods and techniques, evaluations, and program development, applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, ordinances and policies; an understanding of adolescents and the social and individual challenges inherent at that age; human resources development; school law; conflict resolution; public relations; principles of effective management, staff supervision and administration.
Skill at:
Planning, organizing, assigning and coordinating the activities of a professional and support staff; presenting ideas effectively, verbally and in writing; dealing constructively with conflict and developing consensus; selecting, supervising and evaluating subordinates; dealing effectively with people within the community; team building; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; working with people, staff supervision and administration.
Licenses/Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Rhode Island driver license with a driving record acceptable to the District; Rhode Island School Administrator Certification must be obtained prior to placement as an administrator.
Salary: $120,000-$125,000 per year.
