COMPANY OVERVIEW:
Facility Contract Services (FCS) is a Florida-based contract services company that employs and manages personnel for municipal clients. Our staffing services include administrative support, clerical, accounting, payroll, billing, accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, human resources, supervisory roles, utility services, water and wastewater plant operations, property and general services management, building and landscape maintenance, parks and recreation, and senior and community services. FCS specializes in municipal privatization through a task-based approach aimed at improving productivity and efficiency.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for the safe operation of an assigned Recreation center. Duties will include but are not limited to facility rentals, deposits associated with aquatics or facility programs, activities and the safety of its patrons. Work involves exercising preventative safety measures, supervising and instructing swimmers, cleaning and maintaining the pool, water and equipment, and providing aid to swimmers in distress. Work is reviewed through observation for adherence to established policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Observes and supervises activities of swimmers; may be required to instruct swimming and water safety classes; leads special water events/competitions.
- Aids in the rescue of patrons in the water and administers first aid or life saving techniques as indicated. Obtains professional aid in case of serious accident or injury.
- Cleans and maintains pool and surrounding area; checks water make‑up and adjusts pool chemicals; maintains recreational facilities and equipment.
- Maintains records and reports of activities.
- Assist with ordering and inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Assists in conducting recreational activities, rentals and events.
- Supervises Lifeguards and Swimming Instructors.
- When needed assist in the coordination of City special events and assigned administrative work.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) year of experience in recreation programs; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, American Red Cross or American Heart Association C.P.R*, for the Professional Rescuer and an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate.
- Knowledge of life‑saving methods and practices.
- Knowledge of pool maintenance and proper chemical make‑up of pool water.
- Ability to make sound, quick independent judgments and to handle persons in emergency or life threatening situations.
- Ability to instruct swimming and water safety classes.
- Ability to perform rigorous exercises and keep in top physical condition.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Job descriptions frequently mention the ability to lift and move objects, potentially up to 50-55 pounds, to assist swimmers or carry equipment.
- Lifeguards need to be able to perform a range of movements, including walking, kneeling, stooping, climbing, and reaching.
- A lifeguard's job requires constant vigilance and the ability to quickly recognize and respond to emergency situations.
- Lifeguards need to be able to communicate effectively with swimmers and staff, and they must be able to hear and react to distress signals, such as shouts or whistles.
