What We Offer
The site Plant & Process Safety (PPS) Engineer is responsible for implementing and maintaining comprehensive process safety programs at Covestro's New Martinsville site, supporting safe manufacturing operations while ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Major Responsibilities
Serves as the primary facilitator for process hazard analyses (PHAs) for New Martinsville production units and other regional Covestro sites as required
Supports implementation of all 14 elements of OSHA's Process Safety Management standard at the site level
Manages all PSM and RMP activities including coordinating all associated audits and any submissions for continued compliance
Leads the OSHA VPP Program including coordinating recertification audits every 5 years and submitting the annual VPP self-assessment
Conducts consequence modeling for potential release scenarios using software tools (ALOHA)
Manages the site adherence to the Global MOC program
Oversees and regularly audits implementation of the site Work Permit program
Participates in the annual Insurance carrier audit
Serves as the site contact for the Covestro Machinery Safety Program
Trains as a Covestro TOPPS Level A practitioner and maintains this certification
Conducts routine safety inspections and compliance audits across the site
Participates and/or leads Incident Investigations as requested by Management
Evaluates any hazardous working conditions for adherence to requirements such as confined space entries, excavation entries, or any other conditions having similar potential
Will be trained to serve as a site incident commander
What You Offer
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent field with a minimum of 6 years of experience in chemical plant operations or a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent field with 4 years of experience in chemical plant operations
Knowledge & Skills:
Ability to read, comprehend, and use P&IDs, material balances, equipment and layout drawings and specifications for complex chemical processes
Strong, effective communication and presentation skills
Proven experience performing, facilitating and documenting process hazard analysis using detailed, systematic approaches is preferred
Capable of being certified by Covestro as a PPS Practitioner
