Description

Job Summary

Admitting team members are one of the first initial face-to-face contacts a patient has with our hospital staff prior to their hospital services being rendered. They are required to possess and display exemplary customer service skills. This staff is responsible for initiating/completing the patient demographic intake process. This is a critical step in our revenue cycle and patient satisfaction and requires a fluent level of the Meditech Admissions module and advanced knowledge of government insurance agencies (Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare) and working knowledge of Managed Care plans, commercial insurance plans and self-pay payment protocols. The quality integrity of this intake process is most critical to reducing payment denial or delay. We rely heavily on this position to produce high quality output. Unlike other hospitals that we Network with, our Admissions staff has additional responsibilities in using the Meditech Order Entry Module and actually entering orders into the system and screening Medicare patients for medical necessity. If a Medicare Advanced Beneficiary Notice needs to be signed by the patient, the Admissions staff member initiates it. Other responsibilities include (and not performed by other Hospitals that we have verified with) the ability to determine co-pay amounts, collect and post payments in the Billing module and reconcile the cash drawer, pre-notify hospital admissions and outpatient services. Admitting staff also serves as an information source for internal and external customers by greeting, directing and escorting patients and customers to their desired destination. They insure at all times that the patients feel secure, safe and are treated with respect, dignity and compassion.
