Role Summary & Overview:

As Manager – Mechanical Design, you will lead a high-performing engineering team within WITEC’s Mechanical Engineering group, supporting global business units across a diverse range of projects and product lines. The team specializes in mechanical design, drawing generation, and finite element (FE) analysis. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise to drive innovation, process excellence, and talent development. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality design solutions aligned with business and customer needs, while fostering collaboration across global stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Talent Development:

  • Hire, retain, and develop engineering talent to meet evolving business needs.
  • Foster a performance-driven culture through coaching, feedback, and recognition.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

Strategic Execution:

  • Define and implement technical and management processes to enhance team productivity and delivery quality.
  • Develop and execute a technology roadmap to address current and future capability gaps.
  • Drive resource strategy using a balanced mix of internal and external (PSA) talent to support multiple concurrent projects.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and ensure timely, high-quality execution.
  • Enable prompt decision-making and prioritization based on business needs and customer expectations.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Champion speed, cost-efficiency, and quality through innovative thinking and value engineering.
  • Optimize existing systems and components based on market and customer feedback.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing and documentation of best practices across teams.

Technical Expertise:

  • Maintain hands-on proficiency in engineering design tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, and AutoCAD.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices in design and analysis.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 12 years of engineering experience in mechanical systems, preferably in transit, locomotive, or related structural domains.
  • At least 4 years of proven global leadership experience in project or people management roles.
  • Strong domain expertise in transit mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated technical credibility and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to foster a collaborative, high-performance culture across global teams.
  • Deep understanding of engineering design, analysis processes, and systems thinking.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working in a multinational corporate environment with global teams.
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills.
  • Awareness of current industry trends in product design and PLM systems.
  • Six Sigma training or certification.
  • Experience in leading cost optimization and value engineering initiatives.
  • Proficiency in engineering platforms and tools (CAD, CAE, PLM, etc.).
