Role Purpose
The purpose of the Marketing Trainee role is to support the Marketing Department in executing strategic initiatives that drive sales, differentiate brands, and deliver customer value. This role involves conducting customer and competitor research, analysing internal sales data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to uncover actionable customer insights. The Marketing Trainee contributes to the development and implementation of brand strategies and marketing campaigns, gaining exposure to the dynamic FMCG retail environment within Africa’s largest retail group.
Role Description
- The trainee will conduct marketing research and maintain awareness of relevant trends that impact the supermarket brands.
- They will be responsible for formulating new marketing initiatives.
- They will measure the effectiveness of the marketing plan.
- All communications and marketing endeavours will be aligned with the brand strategy.
- The trainee will ensure that media selection is efficient and complies with the overall strategy.
- They will participate in and assist with the coordination of promotional activities.
- They will manage the day-to-day marketing and advertisement activities.
- The trainee will manage campaign budgets under supervision.
- They will analyse historical sales information and plan accordingly to maximise the timing and effectiveness of promotions.
- The trainee will foster sustainable relationships with internal business stakeholders.
- They will provide marketing support functions to various divisions.
- They will act as a liaison between clients and agencies.
- The trainee will provide high-quality briefings to agencies and ensure that all marketing endeavours support the overall business strategy.
- They will plan and implement projects in accordance with deadlines and budget constraints.
- The trainee will provide and receive continuous feedback to support ongoing improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 or Matric certification – (essential).
- Degree or Diploma in Marketing or equivalent – (essential).
- +1 years of marketing experience – (beneficial).
- Understanding of Marketing principles and practices – (essential).
- Experience in a retail environment – (beneficial).
