The City of Redmond delivers high quality services to our community, and we are looking to supplement our staff. The Youth Basketball Official will officiate youth basketball games for participants in grades 1-6. This position will also communicate with players, parents, and coaches, prepare courts for play, recruit volunteer scorekeepers, and assist Gym Supervisors with opening, closing, and cleaning the gym.

Assignment Duration: This is a seasonal supplemental assignment. Seasonal employees are employed for no more than 6 months within a defined season. The Winter Activities Season starts on October 15, 2025, and ends on April 15, 2025.

Hours: Work schedules may vary from week to week. Approximately 3-6 hours per week average, Saturdays between 8am-7pm. Basketball games are scheduled from November through March. Additional training and onboarding will be required on select dates in November. 

Locations: Redmond Senior and Community Center and other City of Redmond recreational facilities

Position Duties

  • Prepares facilities for leagues/programs
  • Open/close facilities when needed
  • Distribute/collect equipment
  • Keeps communication documentation, manage other paperwork associated with the position and program
  • May provide score keeping and/or officiating for activities and events
  • Communicate with and work with players and volunteer coaches on game days 
  • Handle conflicts that may come up 
  • Arrive on time for your shift 
  • Interact positively with other officials and staff. Promote a positive sportsmanship environment.
  • Bring energy and enthusiasm 
  • Take the time to understand, explain, and enforce the rules 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Customer services practices
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
  • Ability to enforce facility rules, policies, guidelines and safety standards
  • Promote good sportsmanship
  • Work collaboratively with others

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • General knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and/or sports

  • Successful passing of a required background check

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • One to two years of applicable experience

  • Minimum age 16

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • Valid WA State Driver's license required. Accommodations for lack of driver's license may be considered depending on the assignment or circumstances.

  • Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR within two months of hire

Selection Process

  • Note, the City may review existing application pools to fill this position or use this pool to fill future vacancies.
  • Offers of employment are conditional based on the candidate successfully passing both background and reference checks. Internal candidates are subject to passing a new background if the previous check was conducted more than six months ago.
  • Additionally, new hires relocating to the area are required to have Washington State residency within 30 days of their start date to comply payroll tax purposes.
