As a Survey Technician, you’ll be on the front lines of discovery—capturing the details of the land that become the foundation for construction, design, and development. From operating cutting-edge field equipment to supporting projects that define our landscapes, your work will directly influence the maps, plans, and structures that bring ideas to life.


Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Operate survey instruments as part of a field survey crew, supporting construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
  • Collect accurate field data using both conventional methods and advanced Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. 
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate surveying equipment—including electronic total stations, data collectors, and GPS units—to measure distances, elevations, and angles. 
  • Maintain detailed and precise field notes, sketches, and drawings. 
  • Perform surveying tasks for a variety of projects such as lots, roadways, bridges, and flood control systems, including installing construction stakes, establishing and verifying control points, and locating property lines, boundaries, and monuments. 
  • Provide support to the Survey Party Chief with notations and documentation of fieldwork. 
  • Ensure all field equipment is fully charged, properly maintained, and that survey vehicles are clean and stocked daily. 
  • Consistently follow company safety standards to protect yourself, your team, and project sites.

Requirements

  • 0 - 2+ years of experience with land surveying (radial staking, uses and capabilities of survey instruments, including electronic total station, data collector, theodolites, and leveling instrument/procedures)
  • General understanding of principles and practices of land surveying (radial staking, uses and capabilities of survey instruments, including electronic total station, data collector, theodolites, and leveling instrument/procedures)
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Reliable, self-motivated, engaged, and team-oriented
  • Strong problem-solving and technical skills
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Successful completion of a MVR driving records check

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous land surveying experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, collect data, operate and maintain complex precision surveying instruments, and engineering calculators.

Working Conditions


The work is performed outdoors in such areas as landfills, construction sites, in swamps, residential neighborhoods, roadway work zones and wooded areas.


Physical Requirements


To perform the essential functions of the job, incumbents may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as including lifting and carrying instruments weighing up to 50 pounds over rough terrain. Incumbents may also be required to clear vegetation, dig holes, and drive stakes with hand tools.
