About the Department
The Harnett County Public Health Department is currently recruiting for a Medical Lab Technician II to maintain the department's laboratory and perform tests for all clinics within the department. This position will be responsible for performing activities needed to meet federal standards of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 and any additions made to the standards.
Annual Salary:
Minimum Salary: $46,835.00
Job Rate: $54,446.00
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm
Occasional evening clinics and weekend assignments may be required. All employees of Harnett County are subject to be assigned duties during disaster/emergency situations.
Position Duties
An employee within this position will perform pre-analytic duties to include standard operating procedures, blood collection by venipuncture and capillary puncture using the aseptic technique, sample processing for both in-house and reference tests, patient instruction for non-blood specimen collection, inventory and stocking of work areas. The employee will be responsible for recording test results on charts and logs, making notification of abnormal results, specimen disposal according to facility policy, infection control of laboratory work area, reviewing and implementing CLIA and OSHA regulations, assisting in maintaining laboratory manuals and assisting in monthly statistical county of laboratory tests. Other related duties may be performed as assigned. It is vital that an employee in this position perform all job duties with accuracy as lab results affect the patient directly and method of treatment the patient may require. Work within this position will require standing for extended periods of time, stooping when obtaining samples and occasional moderate lifting when moving supplies and equipment and lifting children. Some stress may be associated with this position when dealing with uncooperative clients.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
Associate's degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution or completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course, and one year of medical laboratory experience; or high school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of medical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Basic clinical laboratory procedures (able to follow specific directions)
Phlebotomy skills- Capillary puncture (finger stick and heel stick)
Venipuncture and Aseptic Technique
Microscopy skills-vision is very important in all areas of lab work
Basic knowledge and understanding of quality control and quality assurance
Other Qualifications
Physical Effort:
Work involves standing for extended periods of time. Work required stooping when obtaining samples and occasional moderate lifting is required when moving supplies and equipment and lifting children. Some stress is encountered when dealing with uncooperative clients.
