About the Department

Basic Function

Under moderate supervision, performs all types of body and paint repairs on light rail vehicles.

Recruitment Timeline: Multiple Choice Exams are projected to be scheduled for the week of November 3, 2025. Position Duties

  • Repairs body and paint damage to the interior and exterior of the light rail vehicles
  • Removes vehicle parts such as headlights to perform repairs on the damaged areas
  • Uses Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding equipment to repair damage
  • Mixes paints, matches colors, and paints vehicle surfaces with high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray guns
  • Responds to emergency body repair and maintenance requirements of rail vehicles
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 year's experience in paint and body repair of cars, trucks, or rail vehicles and six months' welding experience
  • Successful completion of a full time training program from an accredited school in paint and body repair may be substituted for an equivalent amount of actual work experience
  • Valid California Class C driver's license

  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

Special Conditions

  • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety & Health Act (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and protective gear "including but not limited" to respirators and/or hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
  • Must be able to work on any one of three shifts and weekends
  • May be exposed to weather, chemical, electrical, and physical hazards when performing duties
  • Positions in this classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations
