Walnut Hill School for the Arts has an immediate opening for a part-time Math Teacher to join our dedicated faculty as a 1–2 month leave replacement, with the potential for continued opportunities depending on departmental needs. We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable educator to teach two sections of Financial Literacy (see course description below), with the possibility of being considered for additional courses in the future as they become available.


Position Details:

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; department and other meetings are held at various times during the week and participation is encouraged

Compensation: $500 per course per week

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach and manage two sections of the Financial Literacy curriculum;

  • Create a positive and engaging learning environment;

  • Implement existing lesson plans and assessments and modify as needed for each learner; and

  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues, including holding in-person or virtual meetings and family-teacher conferences with parents during Family Weekend.

Financial Literacy Course Description:
This elective course is designed for students who are interested in applying mathematics to real-world financial decisions while continuing to build their quantitative reasoning skills. By exploring how math plays a vital role in personal finance and economic decision-making, students will strengthen their analytical abilities in practical, meaningful, and engaging ways ensuring continued progress in their mathematical literacy. Students will explore topics such as budgeting, investing, accounting, credit, loans, interest rates, and financial planning. Through hands-on activities, real-world scenarios, and the use of technology, students will develop the skills necessary to make informed financial decisions, analyze risks and rewards, and understand the long-term impacts of their choices. This course emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and financial responsibility, preparing students to navigate personal and professional financial situations with confidence. 

Collaboration & Community Engagement:

  • As appropriate and in consultation with your supervisor, attend and participate in department meetings, faculty meetings, team-building exercises, and trainings, etc.;

  • Participate in the School’s restorative practices initiative; actively learn about and practice anti-racist work;

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across all departments to foster a positive working and educational environment that supports the School’s mission, vision, and core values;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years teaching or equivalent experience; experience working with high school students a plus; 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience required, Master’s degree recommended;

  • Wide repertoire of teaching skills that suits a variety of learning styles;

  • Comfort with technology and willingness to adopt new technologies as needed; 

  • Innovative teaching practices and a focus on student-centered learning;

  • Strong collaboration and team-oriented working and leadership skills;

  • Possess cultural competence in working with diverse populations; 

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive community;

  • Ability to speak authentically about the imperative for diversity, equity, and inclusion and comfort with cross-cultural dialogue; 

  • Share an educational and artistic vision that aligns with the core principles of Walnut Hill; 

  • Ability to balance a pursuit of academic, artistic, and institutional excellence with compassion and nurture for each individual; and

  • Positive attitude and a passion for teaching and learning.

Physical Demands

Physical demands include dexterity for tools, equipment, and office machine and supply operation including but not limited to writing, typing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy/fax machine, and printers. Stooping, bending, traveling to/from locations on campus, ascending/descending stairs, reaching, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
