Description

Jackson Parish Hospital is now hiring a full-time pediatric LPN. This position offers a full benefit package including medical, dental,  vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, retirement, and other supplemental plans.


The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse identifies patient needs, plans, implements, evaluates, and provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process to facilitate the patient’s progression toward optimal health. This position assists the practitioner with patient care in a clinic setting.


Essential Functions:


  • Plans/organizes work for assigned shift to properly utilize time, resources, manpower, and supplies to ensure patient receives appropriate quality care.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and listens attentively to patients/customers and promptly acts upon requests with consideration for patient privacy.
  • Keep patients/customers informed about their care and treatment in a comfortable atmosphere.
  • Practices safe work habits and maintains a safe environment for self, co-workers, patients, and visitors.
  • Assists with assessment to include vital signs, assures medical history is complete, allegories and medications are documented. Obtains weight, height, and screens patient for appropriate information.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
  • Prepares patients for various types of procedures, gives necessary instructions, and keeps schedules flowing smoothly.
  • Assembles equipment and supplies to assist physician/nurse practitioner with medical procedures and treatments.
  • Provides patient education and instructions as needed.
  • Performs procedures correctly and understands purpose of procedures, understands sterile technique.
  • Follows up on test results/lab work by notifying patient and explaining MD/practitioner’s plan of treatment.
  • Accepts verbal and written physician/nurse practitioner orders and takes appropriate action.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of procedures commonly performed in clinics and flows nursing standards for medication administration, treatments, or procedures within the scope of the LPN licensing role without incident.
  • Assures that medications that have expired are removed are from the shelf.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time frames.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled.  
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Adheres to JPH policies and procedures.

Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.  
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing required
  • Six to twelve months experience in an acute pediatric clinical setting is preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Currently licensed in the state of Louisiana
  • BLS Certification required
  • ACLS and PALS preferred
  • IV Certification preferred

LANGUAGE and PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Strong written and verbal skills.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.
  • Professional/Courteous rapport with patients, families, co-workers, physicians and visitors.
  • Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner.
  • Ability to work long hours between breaks and meals, if necessary.  
  • Basic computer competency.  

MACHINERY/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to operate telephone, fax machine, copy machine, computer, printer, and calculator.
