Purpose of Role:
Reporting to the IT Manager, the Mine Operations Technology Field Support Specialist will be responsible for being the front-line technical expert for our critical operations technology (OT) infrastructure at an open pit mine site. This position will be a key member of a team that ensures seamless operation of our communication and network systems, directly impacting safety, productivity, and efficiency.
Role Accountabilities:
- Provide on-site, hands-on technical support for a wide range of mine site technologies, including:
- Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks: Install, configure, and troubleshoot network hardware (e.g., Aruba switches, access points, routers), diagnose connectivity issues, and maintain network performance in a demanding environment.
- Structured cabling: Install, terminate, test, and repair copper and fiber optic cabling to ensure a robust physical network foundation.
- Motorola radio systems: Program, troubleshoot, and maintain Motorola handheld radios and associated network infrastructure, including conventional and digital radio networks (e.g., MOTOTRBO).
- Lightning detection systems: Install, calibrate, and maintain lightning detection and early warning systems to ensure personnel safety during inclement weather.
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 end-user support to mine operations personnel, addressing technical issues with radios, network access, and other related technology.
- Respond to and resolve operational issues in a timely and efficient manner, often in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment to minimize downtime and production impact.
- Collaborate with internal teams (operations, IT, process, maintenance) and external vendors to troubleshoot complex problems, implement solutions, and support new technology deployments.
- Perform routine maintenance and system checks on all communications infrastructure, including software updates, backups, and physical equipment inspections.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all support activities, system configurations, and network diagrams.
- Adhere to all mine safety protocols and procedures, including those related to working at heights, in confined spaces, and around heavy mobile equipment.
Minimum Qualifications and Education:
- Proven experience (3+ years) in a field support or technical role, with direct experience in a mining or similar heavy industrial environment.
- Experience working in an open-pit mining environment is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in network and communications technologies, specifically with:
- Ethernet networking and structured cabling.
- Wi-Fi networks and enterprise-grade wireless access points.
- Configuration and troubleshooting of Aruba network switches.
- Motorola handheld radio programming and maintenance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of employees, from field operators to senior management.
- Certifications are highly preferred, such as:
- CompTIA Network+
- Aruba Certified Mobility Associate (ACMA) or other relevant Aruba certifications.
- Motorola certification for two-way radio systems.

The work environment will necessitate work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions such as hot and/or dry conditions. Work will be conducted in locations where noise, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration may exist.
Employee will be expected to drive a company vehicle, rental vehicle and/or his/her own vehicle in the course of performing the job, Employee must be able to perform the physical functions of operating a motor vehicle, including use of eyes, ears, arms, hands, legs, and feet. Employee must be able to prove that he/she has a current and valid driver's license.
