About the Role:

The Jail Compliance position at the Orleans Jail Complex (OJC) is a critical role focused on ensuring that all operations within the facility adhere strictly to local, state, and federal regulations governing correctional institutions. The primary objective is to maintain a safe, secure, and legally compliant environment for inmates, staff, and visitors by implementing and monitoring compliance protocols. This role involves conducting regular audits, reviewing policies, and coordinating with various departments to address any compliance issues promptly. The Jail Compliance officer acts as a liaison between the jail administration and regulatory bodies, ensuring that all reporting and documentation meet required standards. Ultimately, this position supports the integrity and accountability of the Orleans Jail Complex by fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in a correctional facility or related public safety environment.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations applicable to jail operations.
  • Demonstrated experience with compliance monitoring, auditing, or regulatory enforcement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Correctional Compliance or related professional credential.
  • Experience working within a large jail complex or similar correctional institution.
  • Familiarity with electronic records management systems and compliance software.
  • Training or experience in risk management and quality assurance.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of jail operations to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Review and update compliance policies and procedures in collaboration with jail administration and legal advisors.
  • Monitor incident reports, grievances, and other documentation to identify potential compliance risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate training sessions for staff on compliance standards, legal requirements, and best practices within correctional facilities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external regulatory agencies during inspections and investigations.
  • Prepare detailed compliance reports and maintain accurate records to support transparency and accountability.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address compliance challenges and implement effective solutions.

The required skills are utilized daily to ensure that all jail operations meet stringent regulatory standards, which involves detailed analysis and interpretation of complex legal requirements. Strong communication skills enable effective collaboration with staff, administration, and external agencies to promote compliance awareness and resolve issues.
