OVERVIEW
Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 26,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. The ASI Facility Operations department is one of the largest departments in ASI. The department consists of four units, BRIC Operations, BSC Operations, Custodial Services and Maintenance, responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, day-to-day operations, safety and emergency management of the BRIC and the BSC. The Facility Operations department strives to transform our facilities into a welcoming home for all and is committed to providing exceptional customer service experiences that lead to a sense of belonging in all ASI facilities.
ASI Custodial Services is responsible for serving the Cal Poly Pomona community by ensuring all facilities and spaces within the Bronco Student Center and Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex are hygienic and accessible to the events, programs, and services within can operate successfully.
POSITION DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the Custodial Services Manager, the Custodial Supervisor provides oversight and supervision while directly supporting the Custodial Services Manager in program and service development, implementation, and overall Custodial operations. This position has strong communication with a multitude of ASI departments as well as vendors providing supplies in order to ensure that the Custodial team is providing optimal satisfaction to BSC and BRIC guests and patrons. The Custodial Supervisor performs routine and non-routine complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience, and considerable independent judgment and decision-making.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conducts Custodial part-time staff hiring, scheduling, supervision, and performance evaluations
- Trains and instructs Custodial Services part-time staff in the performance of their duties including appropriate custodial practices and techniques, the safe and proper use of equipment and materials, and general safety practices
- Reviews, inspects, and analyzes the work of assigned Custodial Services part-time staff, and synthesizes that information in order to implement new systems
- Assists the Custodial Services Manager with forecasting, reporting, and implantation of Custodial team budget
- Assists in maintaining part-time employee work schedules, timecards and reporting absences
- Maintain custodial equipment functionality and operation and communicate to Custodial Services Manager and vendors in situations when they are not deemed as functional
- Assist with implementation of equipment preventative maintenance and operational strategies
- Enforce rules and regulations regarding BSC and BRIC use
- Maintains a high standard of customer service
- Reporting of Custodial teamwork orders, task lists, and EOD submissions
- Complete appropriate activity logs and reports
- Attend meetings, trainings and workshops as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 2 years custodial, janitorial, or similar experience required
- Minimum of 6 months within a leadership role or similar experience required
- Experience using carpet extractor and floor buffing machines required
- Demonstrated leadership qualities
- General knowledge of methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial duties
- Working knowledge of safety and sanitation measures appropriate for custodial work
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Ability to observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods
- Ability to use custodial systems such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communication
- Ability to analyze situations and take immediate action
- Ability to guide the work of others and provide on-the-job training
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Ability to maintain professional work conduct
- Ability to make independent decisions and make recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to operate an office workstation, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and other software
- Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively, and work productively with minimal supervision
- Current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certifications also known as Lay Responder (Employment offer contingent on obtaining certification within 30 days of hire, training provided by ASI)
- Complete a Pulmonary Function Test & Respiratory Medical Evaluation (cost covered by ASI upon offer to hire) with an outcome of “acceptable without work limitations” and a Respirator Fit Test to use an N95 respirator as needed.
- Ability to satisfactorily pass a background screening as an offer of employment is contingent on background clearance

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY
Employment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States. In addition, student employees must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period. Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds.
Position subject to an occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Annual bloodborne pathogen training is required. The initial training must be completed before the employee is assigned duties that may result in exposure to blood or bodily fluids. Hepatitis B vaccination will be offered after the training.
MANDATED REPORTING REQUIREMENT
In compliance with the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and the CSU Executive Order 1083, each ASI employee is designated as a mandated reporter and is required to sign an Acknowledgment of Mandated Reporter Status and Legal Duty to Report Child Abuse and Neglect.
