Platform BOM Operations Lead

About Etched

Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep & parallel chain-of-thought reasoning agents.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Platform Operations BOM Manager to take end-to-end ownership of Bill of Materials (BOM) management across our server and rack-level platforms.

This role is central to ensuring that BOM structures are correct, consistent, and actionable across engineering, operations, finance, and go-to-market. You will drive the integration of BOMs into our PLM and ERP systems, manage early engineering risk buys, and partner with cross-functional teams on forecasting and demand planning for platform solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • BOM Ownership & Structure

    • Create and maintain full product BOMs, including rack-level, L6, and L10 server BOMs.

    • Ensure proper BOM hierarchy, structure, and revision control to support both engineering and manufacturing.

    • Drive BOM accuracy and consistency across PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and ERP systems.

  • Process & Systems Integration

    • Own BOM release workflows from engineering to operations, ensuring smooth handoff into ERP for procurement and build.

    • Partner with PLM/ERP administrators to improve integration, automation, and data quality.

    • Establish governance processes for BOM changes, ECOs, and cross-functional sign-off.

  • Operations & Procurement

    • Collaborate with supply chain and operations to manage early engineering risk buys.

    • Track material availability, lead times, and component risk to ensure platform readiness.

    • Partner with vendors and CM/ODM partners to resolve BOM-related issues.

  • Forecasting & Planning

    • Work with Finance and GTM teams to align demand forecasts for platform solutions.

    • Translate engineering and customer requirements into material planning actions.

    • Provide visibility into long-lead parts and potential material constraints.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Serve as the connective tissue between engineering, operations, supply chain, finance, and GTM.

    • Support NPI readiness reviews and provide executives with clear updates on BOM status and material risks.

You may be a good fit if you have (Must-have qualifications)

  • 7+ years of experience in hardware operations, supply chain, or product configuration management, with strong focus on BOM creation and ownership.

  • Hands-on experience managing complex server or datacenter product BOMs (rack-level preferred).

  • Deep knowledge of PLM / ERP systems (e.g., Netsuite, Teamcenter)

  • Strong understanding of ECO processes, revision control, and manufacturing release.

  • Manage early engineering risk buys and material planning in high-growth hardware environments.

  • Ability to partner effectively across engineering, operations, finance, and GTM.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain, or related field (MBA or advanced degree a plus).

Base Salary Compensation

  • $200,000 - $250,000

Benefits

  • Full medical, dental, and vision packages, with generous premium coverage

  • Housing subsidy of $2,000/month for those living within walking distance of the office

  • Daily lunch and dinner in our office

  • Relocation support for those moving to San Jose (Santana Row)

How we’re different

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in San Jose (Santana Row), and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
