Hire Rate: $23.74 / hour (increase to $25.67 / hour after successful completion of 90-day probationary period)

*Must be able to work nontraditional business hours including some shifts from 8AM - 8 PM during the week and some hours on Saturdays.
Position Summary:
The Scheduler/Biller is responsible for the entire range of customer service, front desk and billing functions related to the Kornberg School of Dentistry. Responsibilities will include greeting and screening visitors, answering telephones, returning voicemails, screening calls, taking and relaying messages, using the computerized Clinical Management System (Axium) to assist with scheduling appointments for patients, coordinating schedulers for all faculty that work in the practice and with other departments in the school, and following up with patients to update them on insurance company pre-authorizations. In addition, the Scheduler/Biller will be responsible for manual and electronic billing, insurance verification, payment posting and reconciliation, follow-up on denied claims or claims requiring additional information. The Biller/Scheduler may be responsible for performing this functions for any clinic of the school as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
*At least 3 years of related experience with patient interaction within a dental setting
*Additional experience with dental billing function, dental terminology, third party coverage plans in all phases of claims processing, and other insurance functions required
Preferred Education and Experience:
*Previous experience with Axium.

Essential duties:
*Schedule patient appointments in Axium.
*Perform front desk activities for the clinic: greeting patients and visitors; check-in patients and announce their arrival; check patient out of Axium at end of appointment.
*Answer calls and assist callers with their questions, and take messages when needed and relay information in a timely manner.
*Confirm patient appointments and pull patient charts prior to appointment.
*Prepare charts for new patients, assuring and verifying accuracy of information. Maintain and update all charts for existing patients. Research misplaced/lost patient records.
*Verify insurance work with patients and students to settle insurance issues.
*Post payments, reconcile Explanation of Benefits (EOB) when claim is not paid, obtain further information for resubmission when required. Make sure accounts of patients are orderly and up-to-date.
*Handle patient/ student doctor complaints and inquires and act as a source of information in these matters.
*Prepare pre-authorization, send out timely and record number when received.
*Prepare claims, use appropriate channel for submitting claims.
*Process credit and debit payments at cluster site when appropriate.
*Compile statistical data for Business Office or other department use.
*Prepare deposits for daily pickup.
*Prepare reports, worksheets and other forms related to daily cashier functions. Forward all information to appropriate department.
*Keep up-to-date on policies and procedures related to the Dental School. Be able to answer questions from Administration and outside stakeholders, such as cash operations concerning daily work.
*Keeping the patient waiting area well organized including making sure chairs are in the appropriate places, and reading materials are organized and up to date.
*Must be able to be cross trained and to fill in handling similar administrative duties in all other areas within the Dental School as needed.
*Prepare and submit reports to Business Manager when required.
