About the Department
Help us keep Broomfield beautiful! The Broomfield Police Department’s Code Compliance Unit is seeking candidates to join our team as its newest Code Compliance Officer. As a Code Compliance Officer, you will perform non-commissioned work pertaining to the enforcement of ordinances within the City & County of Broomfield, CO. In this role, you will serve as an ambassador for Broomfield, working closely with residents and business owners to help them understand and comply with our municipal regulations.Your work will directly contribute to protecting property values, promoting public health, and fostering a spirit of cooperation that makes our community stronger. Selection Process Our selection process includes the following steps: application review, phone screen, in-person panel interview, psychological suitability evaluation & Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA), background investigation, and post-offer physical and psychological fitness-for-duty evaluations. |
Position Duties
Patrol streets and identify violations of municipal codes, including issues with weeds, junk vehicles, zoning, and encampments.
Respond to citizen inquiries, effectively communicate with Broomfield residents and/or businesses, issue notices or citations, and document actions taken in compliance with codes.
Write reports, take photographs, send corrective orders, and follow up on cases to ensure compliance.
Conduct presentations to educate the public on code compliance issues and solutions.
Identify and recommend improvements to departmental operations, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Take necessary safety precautions and anticipate potential hazards.
Manage workload effectively to meet departmental goals.
Collaborate with other departments and agencies; provide reports as required.
Train new employees on code compliance duties, assist with departmental planning and coordination, participate in meetings and workshops, and attend professional development training as assigned.
Keep operational records; enter and retrieve information as needed.
Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Maintain confidentiality of information and ensure all duties are performed in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Broomfield policies and the Municipal Code.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school graduation or GED equivalent required.
60 college semester hours is preferred.
Experience
2 years experience in community services or customer service roles strongly preferred.
Previous experience working with municipal and/or county code compliance/inspection issues (including but not limited to: inspecting properties and vehicles, collecting data, applying municipal codes, gathering information through interviews, statement collection, and direct observation, completing legal reports, and testifying in court) is preferred, but not required.
Necessary Special Requirements (in addition to above requirements)
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer hiring processes: in-person and/or virtual interviews, reference checks, and background checks, which may include a local police, DMV, and sex-offender registry check, polygraph or CVSA, pre- and post-offer psychological evaluations, drug screen, and fingerprint checks through the CBI and/or FBI.
Other Qualifications
Frequently works outdoors in all weather conditions.
Occasionally works in high or precarious places and may be exposed to toxic, caustic, or offensive fumes and vibration.
May be exposed to various safety hazards.
The noise level in the environment is moderately noisy.
Duties may include desk-related tasks in an office environment, patrolling in a vehicle, or assisting other personnel in the field.
Involves working a variety of schedules (including evenings) and is subject to work beyond normal scheduled hours including emergency call-in.
Schedules can be changed with little or no notice and mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advanced notification.
Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Occasionally required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell, and reach with hands and arms.
Lifts and transports bulky or heavy pieces of property (lift up to 50 pounds and drag up to 100 pounds)
