Job Summary

This position is responsible for the general plumbing maintenance of all Port property and CPA-owned facilities. This position reports directly to the Facilities Manager and requires the ability to work weekends.

Essential Functions

  • Must possess working knowledge of all aspects of maintenance. 
  • Performs maintenance to include but not be limited to, replacement or repair of sinks, electrical flushing fixtures, toilets, water fountains, back-flow preventers, water faucets (interior and exterior), irrigation systems, lift stations, trenching, unclogging drains using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.   
  •  Complete work orders and forms to ensure all documents regarding repairs/maintenance are complete. 
  •  Inspect buildings, grounds and equipment for unsafe and malfunctioning conditions. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches and schematics as they relate to buildings and utilities services systems. 
  • Apply methods, practices, and procedures in preventative maintenance, inspection, repair, renovation, and minor construction of buildings and utilities. 
  • Safely operate state vehicles and/or construction equipment in all weather conditions. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
  • During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall.  These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and normal routine working hours.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • 7 years of hands-on commercial / Industrial plumbing maintenance and repair experience. 
  • Must have a superior record of attendance. 
  • Must be a team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment, be flexible and a self starter. 
  • Ability to secure a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must have basic computer skills

Licenses / Certification Required:

  • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days
  • Journeymen Plumbing certification is preferred
  • Have working knowledge of medium to high-security plumbing fixtures and apparatus in controlled areas.

Physical Requirement

  • Ability to perform physical aspects of the job such as lifting and handling 70 pounds 
  • Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (50-70 pounds) 
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment used in the maintenance/construction industry (scissor lift, boom lift, forklift, front end loader, skid steer loader, jackhammer, etc.)
  • Work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments 

Environmental Requirements

  • Tasks are performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather
  • Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heightened awareness of surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents
