Position Title: Radiation Oncology Staff Nurse
Department: Oncology
Schedule: PRN/As Needed

Job Summary

The Radiation Oncology Staff Nurse provides safe, effective, and comprehensive care to oncology patients within the Radiation Oncology department. This role is responsible for patient assessment, care planning, direct clinical care, education, and collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, assess, and diagnose actual or potential patient health problems through assessments and interactions.

  • Develop and provide patient, family, and caregiver education, including post-discharge care programs.

  • Initiate and participate in patient care meetings with the healthcare team; revise care plans as patient condition warrants.

  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.

  • Provide guidance and direction to healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care.

  • Stay current on advances in nursing care through participation in continuing education.

  • Orient, mentor, and educate new staff and students in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.

  • Deliver and oversee direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocols and physician orders.

  • Apply knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions; initiate appropriate interventions in crisis situations.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to positively impact patient outcomes and system processes.

  • Document patient care in accordance with standards and organizational policy.

  • Direct and delegate care to other team members appropriately.

  • Provide safe, effective, and appropriate infusion services for oncology patients.

  • Demonstrate critical thinking in decision-making, considering impacts on patients, families, staff, and continuity of care.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or equivalent) from an accredited Registered Nurse program

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of bedside or clinic nursing experience (oncology nursing preferred)

  • Licensure/Certification:

    • Current BLS required

    • OCN certification preferred

Compensation

  • Hiring Range: $36.00 – $41.50 per hour

  • This is a PRN/As Needed position.
