POSITION OVERVIEW 

A Hardscape Team Technician is an experienced team member in hardscape construction that performs tasks such as: pavement systems (stone and pavers), retaining walls, water features, low-voltage lighting, utilities, concrete, carpentry and stonework.  A Hardscape Team Technician is able to technically operate a variety of equipment and has basic knowledge in construction means, methods, techniques. 

JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1. Review job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on daily basis 
2. Read, measure, and interpret landscape, architectural, and civil plans  
3. Perform the following landscape and hardscape services:  
4. Landscape bed installation and maintenance 
5. Pruning: horticulturally correct tree/shrub/perennial pruning and dead heading  
6. Irrigation: proper installation, controller programming, minor irrigation repairs, and seasonal adjustment   
7. Water features: installation of water features 
8. Lighting: proper installation of low-voltage lighting systems, controller programming, repair and replacement of lighting system components 
9. Drainage: installation of drainage pipe, drain boxes, drainage channels, dry creek beds, and swales 
10. Excavation and grading: use machinery, hand tools, and grade measuring tools to properly excavate, contour, shape, and fine grade soil to achieve desired look and function 
11. Watering: new install plant and turf watering 
12. Plant installation: plant identification, bed preparation, proper plant installation, layout, care and maintenance  
13. Spring clean-ups: bed cleanout, bed edging, pre-emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation 
14. Pavers: installation of interlocking concrete pavers 
15. Retaining walls: installation using segmental retaining walls, boulders and natural stone 
16. Stepping stones and steps: installation using natural stone 
17. Masonry: mix and prepare mortar for wet lay applications including firepits, fireplaces, flagstone patios, coping stone, capstones, cobblestone edging, and grouting 
18. Concrete: knowledge of different mixes and applications that are used for footings, mud slabs, and broom finish and ability to install each application 
19. Utilities: how to call in a utility locate, update an existing ticket, and identify utility markings 
20. Blowing: using handheld or backpack blower to blow off all hard surfaces 
21. Snow removal 
22. Any other tasks necessary.   
23. Operates small and medium duty tools and equipment to include but not limited to: compact track loaders, track loader, mini-excavator, pressure washer, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, string trimmer, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader, zip level, tape measure, cordless & hammer drill, sawzall, plumb bob, level, gas/electric water pumps, architectural and engineers scale 
24. Identifies enhancement ideas to improve client property and submits to team leader. 
25. Learns and has a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities, and knows the limits of work. 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.  

The team member is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday as well as weekends & overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a normally expected workday of 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM.   

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS 

• A high school degree or GED is required as well as two years of documented experience in the green industry  
• Must have great verbal and written communication skills 
• Must be able to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management 
• Must have great analytical problem solving and decision making ability 
• Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionals  
• Ability to use Google translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish speaking workers 
• Assist team leader with training and coaching a team of two or more team members to help develop their skills & ensure team members receive proper training 
• Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensures truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained. 
• Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standard 
• Responsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairs 
• Ability to drive truck & trailer combinations 
• Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance 
• Works as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude 
• Knows and supports the company’s vision, mission, and core values 

CERTIFICATIONS 

• Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record 
• Valid Virginia CDL class “A”, with “O” exemption and valid medical card (Skilled Technician level) 
• VDACS Registered Tech Certification 
• CPR/First Aid Certification
