Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation.  The Rockville, MD office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Staff Geologist to join our growing practice.  We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in developing both field and analytical skills, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and performing geotechnical investigations, including preparing work plans, scopes, and field programs.
  • Document and report the results of geotechnical investigations, including:
    • Log of soil and rock test borings
    • Perform of in-situ testing
    • Install monitoring wells and geotechnical instrumentation
    • Single and multi-well testing
    • Collect laboratory testing samples of soil, rock and water
    • Prepare field reports
  • Perform geotechnical instrumentation monitoring.
  • Perform construction observation, including materials testing and field documentation
  • Assist in preparing reports, plans, and specifications, including construction documents.
  • Create basic plans and figures using GIS, Google Earth, and/or AutoCAD.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in geology or geological engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. 
  • 0-2 years of professional experience.
  • Qualified to acquire or has already acquired the GIT/EIT certification with future ability to become a Licensed Professional Geologist or Engineer.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel out of state for several weeks at a time.  
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside.
  • Willingness to learn new programs and software applications for modeling.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Positive attitude and motivated to work well in a team environment.
  • A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check

The compensation range for this position is between $52,000 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
