Overview:

Saturday 6:00AM-2:00PM & Sundays 2:00PM-10:00PM 

 

Velociti Services is currently seeking a Bridge Tender to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining bridges, canal locks, and lighthouses to ensure the safe passage of marine traffic on inland waterways, near shores, and at designated points of danger. This position may also involve supervising bridge operations and supporting the efficient management of waterway traffic. Duties include working as a drawbridge operator, lock tender, and slip bridge operator.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain bridges, canal locks, and associated systems to facilitate safe and efficient passage for marine vessels.

  • Monitor bridge operations and adjust as necessary to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations governing waterway operations.

  • Supervise bridge operations as required to maintain operational efficiency and safety.

  • Respond to operational issues or emergencies promptly, minimizing disruptions to marine traffic.

Additional Requirements:

  • Flexibility: The ideal candidate must have the flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. The candidate must also be open to cross-training on other bridges to support operational needs.

  • Physical Requirements: Candidates must be able to climb stairs, as the bridge house contains four flights of stairs.

  • Follow all company procedures, policies, and rules.
  • Provide safe, courteous openings for marine traffic.
  • Provide a safe passage for vehicle traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  • Follow all safety protocols.
  • Inform the supervisor immediately of all incidents, malfunctions, and accidents.
  • Ensure the safety of maintenance personnel.

  • The ability to read and comprehend FDOT and U.S. Coast Guard manuals, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • The ability to keep logs and records by FDOT procedures in correct, legible English.
  • The ability to effectively communicate in English on the VHF marine radio.
  • Maintain and guard stations in bridges to check waterways for boat traffic
  • Write and submit maintenance work requisitions
  • Check that bridges are clear of vehicles and pedestrians prior to opening.
  • Stop automobile and pedestrian traffic on bridges, and lower automobile gates prior to moving bridges
  • Raise drawbridges and observe passage of water traffic, then lower drawbridges and raise automobile gates
Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License

Physical Requirements:

Applicants for this role must be able to:

  • Meet and comply with the weight limitation safety rating and recommendations for any equipment associated with performing their duties, including the 300 lb. safety rating for ladders (both portable and affixed) and fall arrest equipment
  • Medium work, depending on location, can lift up to 50 pounds
  • Stoop / bend / kneel / crouch / balance / climb on an occasional basis
  • Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity / tracking / inspection
