Job Summary:
Responsible for mentoring JROTC students and teaching Aerospace Science, Leadership, Drill and Ceremony, Physical Training, and proper Air Force uniform standards, while carrying out duties under both the school district and the U.S. Air Force.
Essential Functions:
- Teach Academic Classes- Prepare and deliver 80-minute lessons across 4 periods per day, serving up to 30 students per class. Teach students with varying maturity, academic, and physical challenges. Maintain professionalism, prioritize student success, and demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Lead Before/After-School Activities- Coordinate and lead extracurricular activities, including physical training, academic clubs, Raiders Teams, and marksmanship teams. These activities may occur before or after school and on weekends, requiring time commitment, organizational skills, and physical stamina.
- Lead Off-Campus Events- Organize and lead field trips, visits to military installations, and participation in parades. This requires excellent organizational skills, physical endurance, and calmness in fast-paced situations.
- Represent the Air Force and School-Serve as an ambassador for both the USAF and the school by maintaining a highly professional image, both in appearance and conduct. Always treat cadets with respect, embracing diversity and inclusion within the program. Adhere to uniform standards set by the USAF.
- Ongoing Professional Development- Complete required continuing education and training, including certification and district/state requirements. Maintain knowledge of curriculum planning, educational programs, drill and ceremonies, and educational administration.
- Share Duties and Responsibilities- Instructors will equally share administrative, logistical, and financial support tasks, as well as out-of-school duties and activities.
- Maintain USAF Certification- Must remain certified through the USAF as a JROTC instructor and meet district and state requirements for teaching staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Uphold high standards of personal and professional conduct, in line with DoD, USAF, and AFJROTC guidelines.
- Directly supervise cadets during official unit events, community service, and extracurricular activities.
- Engage with the local community and liaise between the Air Force and civilian aerospace agencies. Provide career and performance counseling for cadets.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Mobility to ensure student safety and clear communication through speaking and hearing at normal levels.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading basic drill and color guard movements.
- Spanish language proficiency.
- Completion of Air Force Professional Military Education (PME) or similar rank-specific training.
- Previous instructional experience, such as completion of the Basic Instructor Course or holding an AFSC 8BXXX or aircrew prefix of K or T.
Salary Information:
Pay and benefits as determined by the AFJROTC contract with the District. Additional stipend position available ($3,500 per school year for additional competitions/activities).
