Job Description
You will work alongside experienced developers on S/4HANA and Fiori-integrated solutions, with hands-on exposure to handheld/scanner workflows that connect field and warehouse activities to SAP. Expect to participate in enhancing mobile/scanning capabilities, label/print flows, and related integrations that keep materials moving and data trustworthy. Over time, you’ll learn how we design and test secure connections from handheld devices into SAP and why those patterns matter for speed and audit readiness.
Your work will include clarifying requirements with functional partners, implementing ABAP changes under supervision, writing unit tests, documenting your solutions, and promoting transports through a governed landscape. You’ll assist with routine updates and support packs, help verify that upgrades land cleanly, and learn the disciplined change practices that keep production calm. When issues surface, you will join in structured troubleshooting and follow-through so fixes stick. It’s collaborative, practical, and you will see the impact quickly.
We are looking for early-career developers who are eager to learn ABAP and SAP development patterns, communicate clearly, and care about user outcomes. Familiarity with one or more ERP process areas—especially Materials Management, Plant Maintenance, or Finance—is helpful, as is curiosity about mobile/scanning UX and printing/labeling flows. If you have touched S/4HANA, Fiori/UI5, or have coursework or projects in enterprise systems, even better; if not, we will teach you. The Section values preparation, careful testing, and documentation; bring your attention to detail and we’ll help you level up.
You’ll learn from a team that has delivered SAP S/4HANA initiatives across the District, including handheld enablement for inventory/asset operations and secure authentication patterns for scanners. You’ll see how solid planning, checklists, and methodical testing turn complex changes into routine updates—skills you’ll use repeatedly as you grow. The same practices that delivered stable scanner integrations and smooth support-pack cycles are the ones you’ll practice from day one.
Success here looks like steady progress: writing readable ABAP, asking good questions, catching edge cases in tests, and collaborating well with functional owners and end users. As you gain experience, you’ll take on more complex assignments and contribute ideas that simplify workflows for the plant, warehouse, finance, procurement, and field teams who rely on SAP every day. The code you ship will help reduce clicks, tighten controls, and make the business of managing water in South Florida work faster and more accurate.
SFWMD offers meaningful work in support of public service, a supportive team that values learning, and the satisfaction of seeing your solutions used across the District. We’re practical, outcome-focused, and we document our work so the next change is easier than the last one. If you’re ready to learn enterprise development while making a visible difference, we need to hear from you.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Due to the District’s response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.

Pursuant to Chapter 295, Florida Statutes, candidates eligible for Veterans’ Preference will receive preference in employment for vacancies and are encouraged to apply. Candidates claiming Veterans’ Preference must attach supporting documentation with each submission that includes character of service (for example, DD Form 214 Member Copy #4) along with any other documentation as required by Rule 55A-7, Florida Administrative Code. All documentation is due by the close of the job posting.
