TITLE: RECRUITER-ADVOCATE 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree
2. Ability to communicate with educators, parents, students, and the public.
3. Bilingual Preferred
4. Experience working with the migrant population preferred
5. Knowledge of district and department policies and procedures
6. A sincere desire to help children obtain a quality education.


REPORTS TO: Director of Federal Programs/Coordinator of Migrant Education Programs (MEP)


SUPERVISES: None


JOB GOAL: To identify and support the needs of migrant children, and to act as a liaison between the Local Education Agency (LEA) and migrant families


TERM: Nine Months


SALARY: Nine-month Teacher Salary


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. To establish and execute a professional growth and self-evaluation plan.
II. To work effectively with school personnel and staff.
III. To consistently demonstrate self-direction.
IV. To submit accurate records and reports promptly.
V. To exhibit professional ethics.
VI. To foster open communication and positive relationships with school personnel and staff.
VII. To foster open communication and positive relationships with the community.
VIII. To contact local agencies, employers, etc., and secure their permission and assistance in locating and recruiting migrant children on their premises for the migrant education program.
IX. To explain to migrant families the education, health, and social benefits of the migrant education program, to inform them of health agencies, and to make referrals and appointments that will aid the migrant student(s).
X. To enroll migrant children in educational programs and gather and accurately record necessary information for the completion of the Uniform Migrant Student Transfer form.
XI. To serve as a direct communication link between the LEA and the migrant families, the school and community, and the community and the migrant population.
XII. To assist in developing community acceptance of migrants during their seasonal residence and/or as they attempt to establish residence in Louisiana.
XIII. To provide communication and coordination with public and private community agencies such as health services, employment agencies, migrant advocacy groups, growers' co-ops, farm labor groups, and religious organizations.
XIV. To assist the LEA in planning and implementation of extracurricular MEP activities designed to render additional aid.
XV. To help in family consultations in areas of home and community adjustment, economic problems, health deficiencies, employment questions, and adult education needs, in cooperation with LEA.
XVI. To maintain continual contact with migrant families, agencies, employers, etc., in the local area and disseminate all program information which relates to or involves the migrant population.
XVII. To assist the educational staff of the LEA in the identification of special pupil needs and work with the LEA in planning educational programs to benefit Migrant ELs. 
XVIII.To provide requested reports, information, and itineraries to the State Department of Education and participating LEAs.
XIX. To follow State and School Board policies.
XX. To perform any other duties assigned by the evaluator.
