Location/Shift: 1811 Ruiz Street, Houston, TX 77002 / Days & Hours: Monday-Friday - 7:30am-4:00pm 

Job Summary: Responsible for the provision of social service and coordination of mental and healthcare services provided to homeless men through the Dunn Wellness Clinic.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and perform all services provided to homeless men through the Dunn Wellness Clinic at the MDC ensuring quality social service referrals and appropriate care and assistance.
  2. Coordinate and collaborate with other healthcare provides through clinic services as needed to improve social service, mental and physical healthcare of residents at the Star of Hope.
  3. Responsible to work with the Clinic healthcare providers and volunteers thus maintain appropriate client records of assistance submitting all pertinent data as directed by the Manager of Resident Services or the Senior Director of MDC while maintaining all confidentiality guidelines as required.
  4. Communicate and cultivate new collaboration and cooperation with other homeless service providers to create a continuum of care for our residents.
  5. Teach, coordinate and present healthcare related information to staff and residents as needed in the areas of social service, mental and physical healthcare.
  6. Oversee all clinic staff, volunteers and providers at the MDC as needed maintaining a safe and confidential environment for all the clinic providers to work within.
  7. Stay apprised of changes in social service, mental and physical healthcare requirements, standards of care, etc. and provides such information to staff as needed.
  8. Maintain the safety and security of the clinic facility at Star of Hope utilizing the support of all MDC staff.
  9. Meet as required with MDC management and staff and keep staff informed of current events, needs and requirements related to health.           

Other Job Responsibilities:

  1. Other duties as assigned.
  2. Participate in Ministry and prayer activities, as appropriate.  

Qualifications:

Education, Skills & Experience: BS in Social Services or related field or equivalent education and work experience. Previous experience in a healthcare environment or other social work setting, including chemical dependency agencies. Previous experience working with mental health professionals and clients. Excellent written, documentation and communication skills. Ability to maintain confidential client files.

Ability to respond to social or healthcare needs of the homeless with calmness. Ability to respond to clients with mental or emotional distress or disorders and create a safe environment. Ability to maintain confidential client files and excellent communication skills.

Be able to work respectfully, professionally and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required client/staff boundaries and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women and children.

Equipment Used: Ability to use general office equipment. Proficient in Windows, Word and Excel, familiarity with Access. Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance required.

Work Environment: A Christ-centered environment encompassing the entire MDC facility. Modern climate-controlled facility. Individual office with appropriate office equipment. Due to the nature of the population ministered to at the MDC there is the potential of exposure to various medical, physical and emotional situations.  Professional dress is expected and required. Jeans with no holes/fraying may only be worn on Fridays and only as long as a Star of Hope shirt (T-shirt, polo-style or sweatshirt) is worn. Work Schedule may be subject to change to meet the business needs of the mission. 

Relations with Others: This position has frequent contact with clients, staff, volunteers and vendors. Professional contact with Clinicians and healthcare.   

Physical Requirements: Ability to move freely upstairs, bend and stoop throughout Star of Hope facilities. Some carrying and lifting is required (up to 20 pounds).  Possible long periods of sitting or standing.
