The Lead Compositor is collaborating closely with the Compositing Supervisor to drive the technical and creative execution of sequences or episodes. The Lead Compositor take ownership of look development, maintain consistency across shots, and provide leadership and mentorship to the compositing team. Their work demonstrates experience, eye for detail, and ability to problem-solve will be key in delivering high-quality visual effects on schedule.
Must live and be eligible to work in British Columbia, Canada.
Responsibilities:
Creative & Technical Leadership:
· Lead complex and/or technically demanding sequences or episodes.
· Assist in defining and developing compositing templates and tools to maintain an efficient and scalable workflow.
· Collaborate with the Compositing Supervisor to establish creative looks and set visual standards across projects.
· Guide look development and delegate technical/complex shots to senior artists as needed.
· Assist in maintaining project-specific documentation and creative guidelines on the internal wiki.
Shot Production:
· Perform high-end compositing work as required, integrating CG and live-action elements.
· Ensure creative and technical continuity across assigned sequences.
· Create and maintain contact sheets for internal reviews and quality checks.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
· Work closely with Lighting, FX, Roto, and Prep departments to ensure proper handoffs and integration.
· Support Prep work including briefings, annotations, and quality checks.
Team Support & Mentorship
· Conduct rounds and desk reviews to monitor progress, provide feedback, and resolve technical challenges.
· Brief artists taking over shots to ensure smooth transitions and continuity.
· Mentor junior artists and assist with on-boarding new team members, introducing them to the pipeline and workflows.
Scheduling & Workflow Management:
· Collaborate with Production and the Compositing Supervisor to assign tasks and shots across the team.
· Set compositing priorities, flag scheduling risks early, and ensure deadlines are met.
· Maintain clear communication with team members, reinforcing priorities, direction, and morale.
Quality Control:
· Perform QC checks before shots are presented to the Compositing Supervisor or client.
· Support Vendor QC processes as required.
Requirements
· 7+ years of compositing experience in feature film, episodic television, or high-end VFX projects.
· Proven leadership experience in a senior or lead compositor role.
· Expert-level knowledge of Nuke, including deep compositing and multi-pass CG integration.
· Strong understanding of color, lighting, perspective, scale, and composition.
· Comfortable working across departments and collaborating in a team-oriented environment.
· Experience with Shotgun (or similar production tracking tools) is a plus.
· Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
· Great problem solver and Solution-oriented.
· Enjoy being part of a team to collaborate, assist others and be willing to share techniques and skill.
· Previous experience with studio pipeline development and documentation practices is a plus.
· Experience with stereo compositing or 3D workflows is a plus.
· Must live and be eligible to work in British Columbia, Canada.

Benefits
The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $140,000 CND. Individual salaries within this range will be dependent upon skills, experience, and qualifications.
