ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises hospital-wide educational in-services/programs and formulates hospital wide educational/training policies and practices.
2. Identifies individual department educational/training needs and assists individual departments in curriculum development and organization of in-service and on the job training programs.
3. Structures an overall management development program for first line supervisors, managers, and directors, and conducts appropriate courses for the program.
4. Coordinates the process and structure of hospital wide departmental orientation and development programs.
5. Oversees the operation of the allied health education affiliated programs.
6. Selects, trains/orients and assigns department staff (either directly or through subordinate supervisor).
7. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
8. Develops Department Specific training and competencies with directors of each department.
9. Oversees the nurse residency and nurse extern programs, reporting to nursing leadership any identified needs or improvement of each nurse.
10. Collaborates with multiple departments and ensures training of identified staff on workplace violence and ensures de-escalation techniques are trained to staff in all areas.
11. Develops in collaboration with department leader’s preceptor training, and annual skills fairs and employee development for continual growth.
12. Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures department operates within budget.
13. Develops departmental goals and objectives and ensures that the department operates within budget.
14. Directs the preparation and maintenance of department reports. Prepares periodic reports for top management, as required. Responsible for compliance with Joint Commission and all regulatory agencies for the education department and for the hospital wide education programs (including employee competency).
15. Provides consultation to hospital departments regarding education and training.
16. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and functions under stressful situations.
17. Performs housekeeping duties when needed.
18. Maintains patient confidentiality and treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
19. Meets all departmental specific competencies.
20. Adhere to dress code.
21. Adhere to hospital policies addressing infection control, safety, and personnel
