Job Title: Coordinator of Early Childhood Education

Work Calendar: 10 Month 200 Day Staff

GENERAL PURPOSE
Reporting to the Director of Early Childhood Programs, the Early Childhood Coordinator provides coaching and consultative support to teachers of preschool children and works with the Director, the Assistant Principals, and classroom staff to ensure program compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Promote a consistent, developmentally appropriate early childhood program
- Serve as advisor and special consultant to teachers who need professional growth assistance, include conducting professional development workshops for early childhood special educators and related service providers, providing ongoing activities to support new teachers, and coordinating field placement activities for student teachers
- Monitor classroom practices for compliance with Head Start, Virginia and local requirements, including health, safety, supervision of children and Head Start Standards of Conduct.
- Assist supervisors in completing observations of teacher interactions and giving feedback to classroom staff.
- Serve as a resource for early childhood educators to identify specific strategies designed to meet the individualized needs of students.
- Provide instructional support to early childhood education staff and students.
- Assist instructional staff in conducting functional behavior assessments, creating effective behavior intervention plans, and implementing those with fidelity.
- Provide research-based coaching to instructional staff on teacher interactions and curriculum implementation.
- Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies.
- Comply with all district and school policies and regulations.
- Work with members of other SCPS departments to facilitate appropriate service delivery.
- Assist in the transition of children from preschool to kindergarten programs throughout the county.
- Monitor the funding requirements and expenditures of the Preschool Grant(s)
- Meet with teachers to help implement developmental curriculum, perform classroom visitations and demonstrations; coordinate curriculum projects, and work with individuals on problems of curriculum content.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in the area of Early Childhood Special Education
- Hold or be eligible for Virginia teaching license issued by the Virginia Department of Education

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
