Principal Investigator, David Bonda, MD, is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the team!
The Bonda Lab is investigating the single neuron and network-level dynamics governing volitional control over reflexive and higher order behavior.
About the Role
Under the mentorship of Dr. David Bonda (https://www.cedars-sinai.edu/health-sciences-university/research/labs/bonda.html) in the department of neurosurgery and the Center for Neural Science and Medicine (https://www.cedars-sinai.edu/research/areas/neural-science.html), the Postdoctoral Scientist will be engaged in ground breaking research with the goal of developing a mechanistic understanding of human cognition. The Postdoctoral Scholar will closely with other postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, undergraduate students, research associates, and collaborators to achieve this goal. The Postdoctoral Scientist will participate in systems neuroscience research throughout the training period by applying intracranial recordings in humans and advanced computational and analysis methods to study the mechanisms of learning, memory, and decision making. Analyzes and interprets data. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. This NIH and NSF funded position is an outstanding opportunity to receive training in a pioneering research program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keeps appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyzes the results with the Principal Investigator.
- Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
- May design and perform experiments.
- Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
- May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.
Department-Specific Information:
- Designs and performs human intracranial electrophysiology experiments.
- Designs, implements, and uses computational techniques to process and analyze electrophysiological and behavioral data.
- Uses a programming language (MATLAB and Python) to implement analysis procedures and analyzes and interprets the results.
- Uses, develop and extend complex data analysis programs to develop biological insights from complex electrophysiological datasets.
- Develops, implement, and continuously improve behavioral experiments.
- Interact respectfully and efficiently with patients, caregivers, and hospital clinical staff.
Qualifications
Education:
- Doctorate degree in area directly related to field of research specialization.
- Recent graduates with a Ph.D degree in Neuroscience (or a related field) is strongly preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- Works independently on research projects developed together with the mentor within area of specialization.
- Acquires technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) years post-doctoral appointment.
- Strong computational, programming (Matlab and Python), data analysis, statistics and electrophysiology skills are essential. Knowledge of the cognitive neuroscience literature is essential. Previous experience with human scalp-or intracranial EEG or animal intracranial electrophysiology is preferred. Proven track record to conduct high-quality research evidenced by first author publications is required.
