Definition of Position:
The RN provides individualized and specialized nursing care to patients in the Center in accordance with the attending physician’s orders, recognized nursing techniques, legal aspects of current nursing within the state of South Carolina and Center’s policies and procedures. The RN participates in the teaching of patients and family and provides leadership by working cooperatively with the physicians and other health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The RN maintains standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
In the event of the absence of the Clinical Supervisor, a RN may be called upon to be the acting Clinical Supervisor for the Center by the Medical Director and/or Center Administrator.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the RN may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Communicating and coordinating procedure scheduling prior to patient arrival date.
2. Maintaining the physical surrounding of the Center and ensuring it is conducive to the optimal safety and comfort of the patient with optimal performance for the procedure.
3. Explaining procedure to patients and answering questions.
4. Respecting the privacy of patients and holding in confidence all information obtained in the performance of professional service.
5. Preparing patients physically and emotionally for procedures.
6. Obtaining patient’s history and provide thorough assessment.
7. Providing care appropriate to the age and condition of the patients served.
8. Promoting positive image and concern for patient welfare to patient and family.
9. Anticipating the needs of the physicians, He/She will assist with preparation of surgical procedures.
10. Administering IV medications including IV conscious sedation during procedures as ordered by physician.
11. Assisting physician during procedures including the documentation of patient care.
12. Observing patient’s condition and reporting immediately any untoward signs, symptoms or unusual occurrences.
13. Following cardiac/respiratory arrest guidelines.
14. Collecting and processing specimens accurately.
15. Performing arterial and venous sheath pulls.
16. Monitoring and providing for recovery of patients.
17. Assisting in patient discharge with proper instructions and help to their transport/vehicle means to go back home.
18. Facilitating post procedure calls to patients with appropriate documentation.
19. Acting as a ‘Triage’ resource for clinic side of the Center as required.
20. Maintaining supplies and medications under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor.
21. Assisting with maintenance of records and quality assurance studies as directed. He/She will participate on committees as required.
22. Verifying that equipment is maintained at an optimally achievable level of quality and is safe for patient and staff use.
23. Reporting immediately any malfunctioning equipment to the Clinical Supervisor.
24. Reporting immediately and accurately any unusual occurrences and/or incidents to the Clinical Supervisor.
25. Serving as a clinical resource by sharing knowledge commensurate with level of experience and participating in formal and informal teaching/coaching.
26. Assisting the Clinical Supervisor with orientation training for new employees as required.
27. Supervising the clinical activities of technicians and other non-licensed personnel as directed but the Clinical Supervisor or Physicians.
28. Observing Center policies and procedures with professional accountability.
29. Maintaining current surgical knowledge through attending approved educational courses and networking with surgical personnel working in other facilities.
30. Participating in marketing activities as directed by the Center Administrator or physicians.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Graduate of accredited school of nursing, BSN highly preferred.
B. Current state license as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina.
C. Maintenance of Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) and Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
D. Two years’ experience in surgical and/or critical care procedures – vascular procedures preferred. He/She will have skills applicable to the South Carolina Nursing Practice Act. Possessing the technical skill required in performing surgical procedures.
E. Knowledge of the pharmacology and physiological system review required.
F. A mastery of intravenous puncture required.
G. Knowledge of HIPPA compliance and OSHA.
H. Initiative, reliability and flexibility as well as a commitment to a high standard of performance.
I. Completion of required annual Inservice.
