Full Time/Part Time: Part Time (20-40 hours per week)

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary 


****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire appointments, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents or Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

  • For placement in Instructor applicant pool in 2025 with International Programs
  • Positions are for short-term, part-time, non-credit instructors with International Programs. 
  • Contingent upon registration, position availability, course offerings, departmental need, and funding. 


Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Assist in preparing for the upcoming IP sessions.

2. Participate in program duties and events as assigned.

3. Assist students and instructors in the sessions.

4. Teach in the upcoming classes and supplemental courses in IP.

5. Assist in developing curriculum materials.


Minimum Qualifications 

1. Master’s degree in ESL/SLS/TESOL.

2. Minimum of two years of successful, recent experience teaching ESL in an in-person and online classroom setting.

3. Demonstrated experiences in ESL curriculum development.

4. Proficiency in spoken and written English commensurate with an instructor's role as a language model.

5. A well-rounded, extensive knowledge of, and experience with American and Hawaiian local cultures; and understanding of and respect for a culturally diverse student population

6. Demonstrated successful, recent experience working with international students.

7. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis


Desirable Qualifications 

1. Familiarity with the International Programs' curricula, academic policies and procedures.

2. Successful experience teaching a wide variety of courses, levels, and age groups.

3. Familiarity with existing ESL materials.

4. Overseas/cross-cultural experience.

5. Extensive experience learning a second/foreign language.

6. Evidence of professional development and of involvement in the field of ESL.

7. Demonstrated successful experience teaching intensive ESL courses.
