Role:
The Business Development Officer plays a key role in helping meet strategic membership and growth goals through managing the Credit Union's relationship with key select employee groups (SEG), specifically within the educational sector and other selected industries and organizations within the Credit Union's field of membership. The position is also responsible for developing new members, adding additional business partners and increasing business with present members by making personal contact. Coordinates events and promotions at Credit Union and SEG sites and other strategic locations within designated territories and maintains accurate reports and records.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
45% BUSINESS RELATIONS: Expand banking relationships and contacting potential business partners and prospective members to develop new business, including the opening of new accounts. Regular visits to current and inactive SEG partners, asking for business, maintaining and growing relationships, making presentations, and public speaking to promote credit union membership. Consults with and interviews members and prospects about their financial goals and needs and identifies and promotes Credit Union products, loans, and services to best meet those needs. Maintains high product knowledge by learning new selling techniques, new products and market trends. Ongoing communication with partners and vendors. Executes ongoing tracking of events, promotions, budget spending, relationships, with daily and monthly reporting of results. Manage sales software to keep records of SEG profiles, contact and activities. Written and oral reports as needed.
35% COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: Represents the Credit Union at various functions to develop business relationships. Participates in community development activities such as the Chamber of Commerce, service clubs, and Credit Union service activities in order to increase Credit Union visibility and to enhance new membership growth opportunities, regular financial literacy presentations to SEG partners and members. Will lead the planning effort and coordination of community and SEG-related events. Assisting the volunteer Ranger program with planning, execution and deployment of events.
10% BRANCH DEVELOPMENT: Develops membership opportunities in our Branch areas to achieve departmental membership goals. Works with branch managers to develop business for their branches. Attends chamber and/or service organization events to build awareness for Lookout Credit Union.
5% MARKETING CORRESPONDENCE: Assists with coordinating promotional campaigns and developing content of support materials to use in business development activities. Responsible for analysis of relevant statistics for the business development plan making recommendations to management when required. Assists with social media planning, posting and monitoring strategy as needed.
5% All other job-related duties as assigned.

- Maintain an excellent knowledge of financial products and services offered by the Credit Union and be knowledgeable of competitors' services.
- Provide recommendations to management, based on current research data, regarding the business development strategies and directions the Credit Union should take.
- Provide informed, prompt, professional and accurate service and support to all members and associates.
- Be willing to work evenings, before/after the standard shift and on weekends.
- Adhere to Credit Union policies and procedures.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience
Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
Education
(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are essential. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is both motivated and capable of inspiring and influencing others. A positive attitude, friendliness, courtesy, tact, and professionalism are critical to success in this role. The ability to motivate or influence others is a key aspect of the position. Building and maintaining relationships with external contacts such as individuals and organizations is often necessary and may involve promoting ideas or services. This role also demands a high level of trust, discretion, and diplomacy.
Other Skills
Working knowledge of basic computer skills and applications including email and word processing functions. Use/operate a computer keyboard by touch.
Physical Requirements
Written and verbal communication is important to impart detailed information accurately and efficiently to Credit Union members and team members. Must be able to exert up to 30 lbs. of force to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Work Environment
Work is generally performed in a temperature-controlled office setting, with typical exposure to ambient sounds such as computer equipment, telephones, and conversations between coworkers and members. However, the position also requires a significant presence in the community, including attendance at various events which may involve exposure to outdoor conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow, or other inclement weather. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as responsibilities may extend beyond the traditional Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule. Occasional travel may be necessary.
