Manage the measurement process for Northern Natural Gas, leading the activities of the field measurement specialists in direct support of pipeline operations. This position is accountable for leading a group of measurement specialists responsible for measurement related abnormal operations investigations, resolving timely and accurate field measurement issues, assisting with field measurement project commissioning, investigating system unaccounted-for causes, and troubleshooting measurement issues. 

 

Responsibilities

Provide leadership for the measurement process for Northern Natural Gas, leading the activities of the field measurement technical services group and various special support functions. 

 

Manage the activities of the field measurement services groups to ensure that they are effectively supporting field measurement operations and engineering projects. 

 

Manage the MARRS (measurement and regulator relief sizing) program to ensure DOT compliance for overpressure protection on the pipeline system. Manage various systems used by field operations, engineering and facility planning that determine meter capacity, regulator capacity, heater capacity, and pipe gas velocities. 

 

Develop strategic and operational plans for control, management and improvement of measurement capabilities and market expansion needs to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives. 

 

Develop and coordinate with the training department to develop measurement skill training to specialists and technicians. 

 

Manage unaccounted-for (UAF) gas loss using system segmentation measurement, field equipment troubleshooting, volume and energy metrics, audits, and capital project proposals. 

 

Collaborate with the Manager of the Measurement Analyst Group to develop measurement engineering standards, measurement operating procedures and guidelines. Manage the testing and evaluation of new measurement product technology.

 

Prepare and control the department budget. 

 

Manage multiple budgetary programs related to measurement, gas quality, overpressure protection, electronic flow measurement (EFM), and heaters. The programs have annual capital cash flow of more than $7 million, Provide measurement support for capital projects. 

 

Oversee Sarbanes-Oxley, marketing affiliate, tariff, and DOT compliance for the department. 

 

Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals, objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring, and reporting the work performed within the department. Participate in the development of the corporate and departmental business plans. 

 

Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. 

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.) Advanced degree preferred.

Eight plus years of related experience, including three years of supervisory/management responsibilities.

Proven history of progressively responsible leadership ability.

Excellent analytical and technical skills 

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Project management skills: ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues and projects concurrently.
