A Cardiac Catheterization Lab RN plays a crucial role in the cardiac catheterization lab, focusing on the care of patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures. Primary responsibilities include preparing patients for procedures such as angioplasties and stent placements, monitoring vital signs, and administering medications. Cath Lab RNs work closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth execution of procedures, maintain sterile environments, and manage any complications that might arise.

 

Additionally, Cath Lab RNs provide pre- and post-procedure education and support to patients and their families, ensuring they understand the process and recovery steps. Cath Lab RNs' expertise and quick decision-making skills are vital in emergency situations, making them indispensable members of the cardiac care team.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but are not limited to):

  • Prepare and educate patients for cardiac catheterization and other specialized procedures. Monitor vital signs and procedural outcomes to deliver optimal care.
  • Collaborate with physicians and technologists to assist in diagnostic and interventional procedures. Maintain sterility and proper equipment functioning.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and diligently document care plans, procedural outcomes, and patient progress in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Act swiftly in emergency situations, utilizing ACLS protocols to manage potential cardiac complications during procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including cardiologists, technicians, and other nursing staff, to ensure seamless patient care delivery.
  • Counsel patients and families about procedural details, post-procedure care, potential risks, and lifestyle modifications for better cardiac health.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN); preferred.
  • Active state Registered Nursing (RN) license required.
  • Current BCLS (AHA) upon hire and maintained current
  • Current ACLS certificates upon hire and maintained current
  • One (1) year of clinical experience in a cardiovascular lab doing cardiac work or in a critical care area is required.
